$131 million lottery jackpot awaits Mega Millions hopefuls
I am all for helping people in crisis. In fact, I contribute 28% of my pay each week to the government so they can do just that on my behalf. I can't see why I should give more on top of that, especially in these days of extremely high housing and gas prices when I need every dollar to prevent my own crisis. If the government chooses to send my money to Iraq and Israel instead of being ready to help those in serious need in the US, I guess the victims will have to lash out against the governmen

In the decade since South Boston gangster James Whitey Bulger fled to avoid federal racketeering charges, the fight over who cashes in on his $1.9 million share of a Massachusetts lottery jackpot has been nearly as intense as the hunt for the fugitive. The mothers of two women allegedly killed by Bulger unsuccessfully went to court for the windfall. Bulger's brother John and one of his sisters also failed to hit pay dirt in court.Yesterday, the lottery wrangle was rekindled. A federal judge ope

Puerto Rico turns store receipts into lottery tickets
Don't throw out that lunch receipt: It could be worth $1,000. That's the idea behind a campaign to force Puerto Rico's many tiny markets, food stalls and other mom-and-pop businesses to collect sales tax. Puerto Rico's Treasury Department is transforming receipts into lottery tickets, printing contest numbers on each receipt and holding weekly drawings for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $1,000. It also plans to have a monthly drawing for a car. A pilot program started in December in t

Australian lottery sale proposal 'a gamble'
A NSW opposition plan to sell NSW Lotteries to help pay for drought projects would amount to a gamble on the security of the state's water resources, Premier Morris Iemma says. Opposition Leader Peter Debnam wants to sell NSW Lotteries, from which the government earned $381 million in 2005/06, to help pay for a $1 billion drought-proofing water fund. It's expected a coalition government would earn around $800 million from the sale, details of which Mr Debnam will finalise after consulting

Some Baptists want Texas Lottery Commission shut down
dpoly1, I believe your logic is flawed. I don't think most people have a problem with them expressing their views, but dissent because the Baptists very readily attempt to use the arm of government to impose their values on other people. Drunk Driving is already illegal, and so as far as alcohol is concerned, an attempt to ban it (which was already done) would be going too far, and is an imposition of force (by the government). Not to say that a drunk driver killing isn't an imposition

N.Y. couple wins $162M lottery jackpot - but owes $1M
No, none of us know the facts but some seem a little anxious to knot the rope. It's like they're saying: Let's give 'em a fair trial and hang 'em in the morning. It makes me wonder coming from this venue, if some of the vitriol isn't just resentment for their winning of the jackpot. ----------------- 'An angry Richard Morrison told reporters outside his home in Miller Place Wednesday night that the county's claims were baseless.' It's a lie! he hollered. It's a lie! ---------------
