Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
savagegoose beat me to it. 1 in 1,422.8 isn't quite the slam dunk Coin Toss seems to think it is. It's still extremely possible that you won't hit the jackpot. Chances are you'll earn a decent amount of money back, but you're still dropping almost $250K (almost $375K if you're doing Power Play) on a less-than-1% possibility of landing the big one. I'm not about to sit here and try to calculate the odds of breaking even, though it would make for a decent project for someone inclined to do so.

How do they decide what a games odds should be?
If you Google how to calculate lottery odds the search will return websites that will automatically calculate the odds for any game anywhere. It will also return websites that explain how the odd's are calculated, that's if you are inclined to do it yourself. Any lottery that tampered with a random number generator program would be a huge no-no and would make national headlines/news if they were caught doing it. That kind of news would be all over the TV from coast to coast. Consider Th

Arizona Lottery's Cash 4 game starts today
i give this game my blessing...doesn't seem so bad compared to a traditional pick 4 ...lets calculate some odds here: matching any 4 out of 26 is 1:14,950..pays $10K.. good...(pick 4 is 1:10000 and pays $5k)..what i also like is the possibilty of winning money with 3 and 2 balls since this is a lotto style....better than having a pick 4 i would say even tho its not that EASY to win as it first appears

When you backtest systems..
I usually backtest a system or strategy throughout the entire draw histories of every state that I have (I'm talking Pick-3 here). Normally, you can calculate the probability of a system hitting before you even start the backtest. The success rate of every system normaly performs very close to its true overall probability over the long term. Finding a system that way over performs its probability in every (or most) states would indicate a true odds-breaking system.....so far, I've found non

If I reduce the MM or PB number pool by half and play 3o2e/3e2o...(?)
During the last 400 PB drawings (58%)233 times none of the winning numbers were in the previous drawing, (36%)145 times one of the winning numbers were in the previous drawing, (5%)21 times two of the winning numbers were in the previous drawing and one time three of the numbers were in the previous drawing. No need to calculate the odds when you can look at actual results.

Pondering Question...
If you want to know how hard a lottery game is to win, you calculate the odds (1:possible combinations), the one with the most possible combinations is the hardest. I recently pointed that out in another thread where the players were winning a lot playing the Pick6 WV Cash25. The Cash25 is a 6/25 game(1:177,100) and winning it is a lot easier than winning a 6/49 game (1:13,983,816). Most Pick6 (6/44-59) games have jackpots of $1M or more and Cash25 had a jackpot of $25K.

Is PB inferior to MM?
When calculating the expected value of the jackpot prize, the probability of a single or multiple winners must be taken into consideration. Those probabilities are affected by the odds and the sales for that particular draw.It is for that reason that the expected value rises slowly as the jackpot grows. That is, as the jackpot grows, sales also grow and increase the possibility of a multiple winner.I calculate the expected value of the lotteries I play and only play when the expected value is re

Boxing numbers, how is it done?.....
When I go to play at the store I go to I see where people have written down pick 3 and 4 numbers. They do mathmatical functions and calculate a certain number. My friend told me that was called boxing numbers. What are they doing? I had a friend tell me some people know ways to increase their odds on playing the right numbers.

Winning!
Most of the above replies are correct: The vast majority of players do not win because of the astronomical odds. About 70% of all lottery entries are quickpicks and 70% of all jackpots are won by them. Conversely, 30% of entries are non-random and 30% of jackpots are won by people choosing numbers. Playing the same numbers does not impact chances either way. It's not difficult math to calculate........... just difficult to accept. The best of luck to all.

pick 3 probability
By what formula does one calculate the odds of winning a pick3 type game if one buys 100 random tickets? Would it be 10%?Suppose the lottery sells only 5000 random tickets, what % of all numbers are likely to remain not sold?Bertil
