No ATT DSL... Slugging along with Dialup.

Well, it's been nearly a week without any ATT DSL...  this is really starting to piss me off. Everytime I call to get some kind of info on a status, they feed me the same ol' crap line....  just a few more hours. I had just about enough of the few more oddamn hours.

Rebate, Jumpstart (not), Oil Profiteer 2Q? Hmm??

Hmm, let's see... the Tax Rebate was supposed to just start the Economy at about the 2Q of this year... ??But it didn't help??  Hmmm? Where did all the money go?? Oh, I see...  A record 2Q profit for Exxon...  uh-hm... let's put 2Q and 2Q together and what do we get?

The Cloaking Move

You'll not notice; they are moving to cloak a controlling change.

Think about it.

Scalar Gray Scale to Color Vector

I've been exploring the Gaussian Blur and have had some good results using Photoshop to get the blurring and color gradient worked in, but that's not a very exacting way of doing the Probability Density. I've come up with a Sine Wave Corrected Color Curves for the Photoshop Color Curves so it can be applied to the Scalar Gray Scale generated by the Gaussian Blur in our test application. It smooths out the colors a little better than the Photoshop Bezier Curves. I just couldn't quite tweak those puppies just right. Below is an example Gray Scale Gradient and Color matching Gradient. Also, you can look at the data in an Excel file I have created. You can get that here: https://members.lotterypost.com/jadelottery/graycolorgradient.xls

The Excel file can explain the image below a little better. From left to right the Gradients are Gray Scale Normal, Gray Scale Inverted, Photoshop Color Scale and Sine Wave Scale.

Internet Explorer?

Be aware that there could be a potential problem when visiting some websites. I had this come up and was able to remove the fake version of Internet Explorer. It's goes like this. I was researching information on an asteroid due to pass near the earth in 2012 and 2036. I clicked on a site that I thought would have some information on its orbit. By chance I noticed that Internet Explorer didn't seem right. Something was just not right. I'm not going to say exactly, but those of you that work with your Internet Explorer will know. The change was very subtle. I'm not going to provide any feedback, but look and be aware. Fortunately, I was able to remove the Fake Internet Explorer and install the original. If you do have this happen you'll have to make Internet Explorer crash somehow. I deleted files and did not do the recommended reinstall that Windows pops up. Instead, I used a different computer to download Internet Explorer and let the install program run and remove any malicious software. Also, it may have been one of those '.ru' sites. I surprised Norton Internet Security didn't get it. It got that Antivirus 2009 blah-bedy-blah pop up crap. I dunno. Windows should have pick this one up, but only after I crashed it, when it attempted to automagic reinstall that it said the software versions didn't match that I eventually had to download from a different computer. I'm glad we have 5 here; with potentially more on the way. A Quad Cores they'll be. Look out everyone! Quad Cores in da howse!

Probability Density 2

Here's an example of how this is going to be applied. Let say we have a random set of points, image 1. Now we want to get an idea for where in general the greatest probability is of finding the next data point. This is what the Probability Density shows in image 2. Image 2 also has the data points superimposed on the density field. Image 3 is just the density field by itself. It gives a general idea of where approximately to expect the next data point. It's not necessary to know exactly where a data point is going to fall. This is also more consistent with Quantum Lottery Selection. In addition, this will be important in proving whether or not a lottery is being tampered with (a.k.a. Fixed) to produce number combinations that deliberately avoid personally picked numbers. In a way, this will act like a form of instrumentation for examining Random Numbers or Quantum Lottery Selection.

The blue areas indicate a low probability of finding or determining a data point, and the increasing gradient to red indicate a high probability of finding or determining a data point.

Probability Density

I've been working on a project that may come up some time relatively soon. It's going to deal with Probability Density and here are some sample images that have been made.

Dream Quake, Again

I had that dream about the great earthquake again today.

We must be getting closer to the event.

It was horrible; people crushed and drowned, waves in land masses and water areas.

Also, there was a new volcano formed because of it.

Somewhere in the U.S, seems like it was Midwestern, but could have been Northwestern.

I dunno....?

I'm not clear yet, but will probably have more intense dreams and details as the event approaches.

My Son the Coder

My older son is getting his gaming computer today.

It's an iBuyPower Gamer 941AE Desktop, Intel Q6600 Quad Core Processor, 3 GB RAM (8 GB MAX), 500 GB Hard Drive, Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB, Vista Premium.

It's what he liked and bought with his own money, but I had to help with the online buy at Amazon.

Also, he picked up his own copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional.

He will be getting into the Coding just like me.

In addition, he picked up Notron Internet Security 2008 and System Works.

Last week he bought his 22" widescreen monitor, Samsung, his choice.

However, I bought him a UPS to help protect his investment, Best Buy Geek Squad GS-15400U, 900 Watt, 1500 Joules surge protect, USB connect Auto Shutdown.

Later, I will get him a Gigabyte RAM-Disk and 4 GB memory for further performance enhancement; mostly for faster virtual memory support instead of using the slower hard drive.

The move to Visual Studio 2008

We have decided to move JADE LSG 2.0 to Visual Studio 2008 for a few reasons.

  1. It will help with supporting Windows Vista for current and future development.

  2. Better windows forms design and ease of design.

  3. Vastly improved security for product updates.

  4. Better future integration of other language support like C++ and C#.

  5. Possible mobile device integration.

This will ultimately mean that code rewrites will have to be done to accommodate the VS 2008 coding styles and conventions. We hope all goes well and have this done as soon as possible.

Big Oil defends profits before irate senators

Big Oil defends profits before irate senators

By H. JOSEF HEBERT,AP
Posted: 2008-05-21 16:45:06
WASHINGTON (AP) - On a day oil prices leaped to unheard-of highs, senators lined up Big Oil's biggest executives and pummeled them with complaints that they're pretending to be "hapless victims" while raking in record profits.

"Where is the corporate conscience?" Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., asked the top executives of the five largest U.S. oil companies.

It's all about economics, came the reply. Supply and demand. The company leaders tried to shift attention from motorists' anger over $4-a-gallon gasoline to a debate over new areas for drilling.

But senators at the Judiciary Committee hearing weren't having any of that. They wanted to press the executives about public anguish over paying $60 or more to fill up a car's gas tank.

"People we represent are hurting, the companies you represent are profiting," Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., told the executives. He said there's a "disconnect" between legitimate supply issues and the oil and gasoline prices motorists are seeing.

The executives, sitting shoulder to shoulder in the hearing room, said they understood people were hurting, but they tried to blunt the emotion with economic analysis.

Profits have been huge "in absolute terms," conceded J. Stephen Simon, executive vice president of Exxon Mobil Corp., but they "must be viewed in the context of the massive scale of our industry." And high earnings "in the current up cycle" are needed for investments in the long term, including when profits will be down.

"'Current up cycle,' that's a nice term when people can't afford to go to work" because gasoline is costing so much, replied Leahy with sarcasm.

"The fundamental laws of supply and demand are at work," said John Hofmeister, chairman of Shell Oil Co., acknowledging it is something the oil industry has been saying for some time and that the explanation may sound "repetitive and uninteresting."

Hofmeister was joined by executives of Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., BP America Inc. and ConocoPhilips Co. Together the five companies earned $36 billion during the first three months of this year.

As the executives sought to explain their profits and why prices are so high, the global oil markets were moving into new, uncharted highs, touching $133 a barrel for the first time. The national average price of a gallon of gasoline hit $3.80, with $4 showing up in more places.

The exchanges got personal, too.

Simon was asked what his total compensation was at Exxon, a company that made $40.6 billion last year. Simon replied it was $12.5 million.

John Lowe, executive vice president of ConocoPhillips Co., said he didn't recall his total compensations. So did Peter Robertson, vice chairman of Chevron Corp. Hofmeister said his was "about $2.2 million" but was not among the top five salaries at his company's international parent. Robert Malone, chairman of BP America Inc., put his "in excess of $2 million."

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., noting that Exxon's profits had nearly quadrupled from $11.5 billion in 2002, said he had heard nothing from the oilmen that would explain "why profits have gone up so high when the consumer is suffering so much."

The executives, appearing under oath, cited tight global supplies with scant spare production capacity and the fact that large areas of land and offshore waters remain offlimits to drilling. And they said they're worried Congress was talking of requiring the five companies to pay more taxes.

"I urge you to resist these punitive policies," said Hofmeister.

It was not what many senators wanted to hear.

You have "just a litany of complaints that you're all just hapless victims of a system," Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., told the executives. "Yet you rack up record profits ... quarter after quarter after quarter."

One senator after another cited the pain that high energy prices are causing farmers, small businesses and people trying to find a way to afford a vacation trip this summer.

"Is there anybody here that has any concerns about what you're doing to this country with the prices that you're charging and the profits that you're taking?" Durbin asked.

The titans of America's oil industry sat quietly for a moment.

"Senator," replied Exxon's Simon, "We have a lot of concern about that. And we're doing all we can to put downward pressure on prices."

Gas Up! $5.00 is coming this weekend.

I'd get your tanks filled now.

With the jump oil price and the forth coming holiday weekend, we could be looking at $5.00 per gallon gas this weekend.

VB 6 to VB 2008?

Well, that didn't go as well as I hoped it would. The JADE LSG code in VB 6 is not translating very well to VB 2008. I'm faced with a difficult decision on completing JADE LSG 2.0 in VB 6 as is or do a complete rewrite of the code in VB 2008. The coding styles and methods are vastly different between the two versions of VB and it makes it just as long a task to completely rewrite the code in VB 2008 than it is to massage the VB 6 code to VB 2008. Either way, JADE LSG 2.0 will probably be Open Source for what ever version of VB I use.
