E Policing Report for September 15, 2009

 

9/14/09 @ 1918 hours

Common Law Robbery/False Imprisonment/Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury 

2420 N. Wesleyan Blvd(Hal Orr’s Inn)

Victim:  Christopher Keith House

Suspect(s): David Wayne Jones and three unknown white males, age range 18-20

Officersresponded to the above location in reference to a fight. Uponinvestigation, Jones and three unknown white males forced entry intothe victim’s hotel room and assaulted the victim. During the assault,the suspects locked the door to the hotel room not allowing the victimto leave. After assaulting the victim for several minutes, the suspectsfled the scene taking the victim’s hat. The victim knew one of thesuspects as David Jones. The victim refused medical treatment. Officers located Jones at 2408 Liriope Dr. Jones was charged with abovecrimes and was given a $5000.00 secured bond with a 1^st appearance set for 09/16/09 in Nashville. The identity of the other suspects is unknown at this time.

Residential Breaking and Entering

1224 Stone Ridge Ln.

Anunknown suspect forced entry by kicking the front door to thisresidence. The victim was not home at the time.  Upon entry, theunknown suspect removed a laptop computer, a Wii video game, a promisering, a diamond twist ring, a wooden jewelry box and assorted jewelry.

Shooting/Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury

East Grand Ave@ Park Ave

Victim:  Seiko Bernard Petway

Suspect(s): Unknown Black Male/Tavon Dionte Clark/Preston Lee Washington/George Albert Brown III

Officersresponded to a shooting call on East Grand Ave. The victim wastransported to Nash General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the rightthigh and the left thigh and had non life-threatening injuries at lastreport. Upon arrival at the scene, a witness advised officers that thesuspects were operating a white Toyota Camry. As the witness wasadvising officers about the suspect’s vehicle, the Toyota Camry droveby. An officer followed the suspect vehicle and conducted a criminaltraffic stop. The front right passenger jumped and ran from the scene.An officer ordered the other three suspects to stay in the vehicle. Thethree suspects remaining in the vehicle were Clark, Washington andBrown III. All three suspects were taken into custody. The CriminalInvestigation Division was contacted for follow up investigation. Clark, Washington and Brown were charged with Accessory After the Factto AWDWISI. At this time, the shooter/suspect has not been located oridentified.

Forgery \ Counterfeiting           

612 S. Church St.

Suspect: Earl Brake

Anofficer conducted a traffic stop upon Earl Brake.  Upon investigation,it was found that Brake had seven outstanding warrants for simpleworthless check. Found in the vehicle at the time of the arrest werecounterfeit DVD’s and CD’s that Brake admitted to selling in the area.A total of 1,116 counterfeit DVD’s and 476 counterfeit CD’s werelocated inside the vehicle. Warrants were served on Brake and he wascharged with Operating a Vehicle with No Insurance, Felony Possessionof Counterfeit \ Pirated Sound Recordings, Felony Possession of Video \DVD’s and Possession of Marijuana. Brake received a $5000.00 securedbond and posted bond at the magistrate’s office. His court date was setfor Tuesday September 15^th, 2009, Nash County.

Crime Prevention Tips:  Howto Avoid Scams

§                  JUST HANG UP on unsolicited telephone offers.

§                  Do not answer phone calls listed as “private”.

§                  If someone calls you to help a stranded motorist family member, hang up and call the family member to verify.  Ask questions. 

§                  Never respond to spam e-mail offers.

§                  Avoid sweepstakes, lottery and other advance fee schemes on the internet or over the telephone.

§                  Approach a local lender if you need to secure a loan. Be wary of unsolicited credit repair offers.

§                  Ask questions before making a charitable contribution. Verify the charity.

§                  Verify a web site’s security before ordering merchandise online.

§                  Donot purchase anything from anyone who approaches you on the street,offering items such as jewelry or electronic equipment.  It is probablystolen.

§                  Ifyou are offered something for nothing, do not believe it! Remember thatanything that is worth having will not come easy. Remember, you getwhat you pay for.

§                  If you feel like you are being pressured into buying something, be suspicious of it.

§                  Make sure that your agreements are in writing

§                  Watch out for people who come to your door asking for money due to charity or some personal reason.

§                  Do not discuss your personal finances or give cash to strangers.

§                  Use a shredder on personal documents.  Do not just throw paperwork with personal information on it in the trash.

§                  Remember, if it is too good to be true, it usually is.

FBI: Bank Robbery Spree Ends in Capture

Chad Schaffner, the man identified by federal authorities as theserial bank robber who struck in North Carolina, was arrested inMissouri September 12, the FBI told NC WANTED.

Schaffner, 37,originally from Indiana, is suspected of robbing 11 banks in 5 statesover the last four months, including 4 in North Carolina.

The FBIsource did not provide details of the arrest, but CNN and theAssociated Press are reporting that Schaffner was spotted by a retiredstate trooper at a motel in Kingdom City.

Schaffner's brazenstyle caught the attention of NC WANTED, who has been covering thismulti-state fugitive manhunt for weeks. He made no attempt to disguisehis identity in any of the robberies.

He faces charges in the following armed bank robberies:

-- May 7, 2009 at the River City Bank in Louisville, Kentucky

-- May 15, 2009 at the United Services Credit Union in Fletcher, North Carolina

-- May 28, 2009 at the Wachovia Bank in Forest Acres, South Carolina
