Scientology and the space computer

For those who haven't struggled through the comments on the blog entry below, several things need to be said:

The computer is in no way connected to Scientology, E-Meters, nor to science fiction author Ron Hubbard.

Scientology is a religion, but it is not Todd's preferred religion.  I wrongly assumed it was his religion when he announced in a blog comment that the computer 'sounded like a Scientology E-Meter'.

Todd later denied any association with Scientology and explained it's a 'questionable' religion from his point of view, by virtue of the fact movie stars are members of that religion.

But Todd is not a Scientologist, nor am I, nor is that computer pictured below.

Todd and I and our friend the computer in the picture are all equally suspicious of that religion because movie stars belong to it.

I'm also not a Muslim because Arabs believe in it.

I'm not a Latter Day Saint because Mormons believe in it.

I'm not a Lutheran because Germans believe in it.

I'm also not a Christian.

I don't know what religion the computer is.

J

I'm not a Christian.  The computer is not an E-Meter.  Todd is not a Scientologist.

All said tongue in cheek.  Smile.

L. Ron Hubbard was a MUCH better science fiction writer than a cult leader. I used to dislike that genre of fiction but he was very good at it. I did finish those books. He should have stuck with it.

You sure did get a lot of mileage out of me saying that that computer reminded me of a Scientology E-meter. I'm not sure why, but my simple statement created all kind of confusion. I'll be a little more careful next time.

Todd:

Confusion is the natural state for humanity. I wouldn't call what I got from your statement mileage, so much as yardage. I'm more of a quarter-horse kinda guy.
It wasn't worth being careful about in the future. A few smiles and chuckles are worth a few yards in this life.

I went back and did some looking.... turns out I read some L. Ron Hubbard.... everything he wrote in Sci-Fi way back when. But I don't remember any of it.

I also once had a box of books Mel bought in an estate sale, still in the box.... a set about the size of the Oxford English Dictionary.... that set could be measured in pounds rather than volumes. As I was cruising the past in meditation for L. Ron Hubbard it came to me that set of books was by him, and the word Scientology was in the title.

Once I'd twigged to that the memory of those boxes of books in the attic in my Y2K cabin returned... the tops of the boxes were opened and folded shut, but I never got around to looking closely at them. I suppose after Y2K happened and all my belongings went away they probably went for auction or flea marketing somewhere. Maybe someone more inclined to whatever was in them ended up with them.

Thanks for the comment,
Jack

Gracias for the visit, the read, and the confession of laughter.
Good seeing your still around.

"Confusion is the natural state for humanity."

Interesting comment, Jack. When people ask me what religion I practice I usually say "Natural Confusion." Maybe that suggests there is also an unnatural confusion, which could be true. This would be caused by bogus news articles, tv media influence and general gossip. You can only be confused if you don't comprehend something, right? So if one lives in a simple world where things are what they appear to be, confusion would be an uncommon condition.
