I got my new computer just now from HP.
Published:
I just got my new computer by FedEx.
I stll have to unpack it, I only bought the Pc, not a monitor nor printer as I have an older Pc (Very old) that has a new monitor and printer that I bought for it time ago, I will use that monitor for the new Pc until I get an even newer-one for it as I want to keep on using the older Win98SE Pc, the old Pc will be mostly for the internet and for running old Win98SE and DOS programs, the new Pc will be for WinXP and speed and memory hungry programs, I will try to see if I can also find Win98SE hardware drivers for the new Pc for sound, video and whatever else might be needed, if I find them I will set-up many partitions into the hard drive and put the Win98SE O.S. into some of them and WinXP in-to others, so I can easily run DOS, WIN98SE and WinXP program on the same Pc.
My old Pc is too old for WinXP. it will maybe run on it, but way too slowly, perhaps it would crash too much if I did.
If I can run both WinXP and Win98SE on the new Pc then the older one will be just an internet terminal for the most part and I will run most program on the new Pc.
I do need to by some extra memory for the new Pc as I only bought 256MB for it, too keep expenses down on it, I will find a source of cheaper I GB memory for it, right now it comes with 256MB DDR2-533MHZ SDRAM (1x256)
I will keep that memory and just add to it in the other slot the 1GB as soon as I find a cheaper source for it. 1.256GB should be more than enough for that Pc.
Next I would need a scanner.

Have fun with your new toy!

Most software is backward compatible and should run under XP (without actually installing Win 98) - but that is up to you if you want 2 operating systems.
i agree all pc's need additional memory at least 1 gig.
I ahve not taken the time yet to check it out, but if I can also run Win 98SE programs with it, then it will be great.
What I already don't like is that it ddin't come with a WinXP cd, so if it would happen to crash for whatever reason, I will also need to buy one of those CDs, but to keep costs down an upgrade version would perhaps be good enough as I already have a Win98 CD.
Partition Magic should be able to make more partitions and or resize the hard drive, as I want to make many WinXP partitions in it.
I would also like to download and IMAGE of the WinXP partition, just the occupied portion of it, into one of the new created partitions (I have not made any extra partitions in it yet) and then if I can burned into a CD, this would save me from having to buy a new WinXP CD in case of a crash.
Maybe tomorrow I will connect and try the new Pc.
