Appreciation

Published:

For many days, I had been wearing a shoulder sling to nurture a sprained wrist and tennis elbow.  I am rid with it now.  But minor injuries like these help me keep my feet on the ground.  I bring to focus what is important.

I pause a moment and just appreciate that I have arms and legs and feet. And eyes, nose, ears, etc.  That I can sing, hear, see.  That I have healthy lungs.  That I can run, walk up and down the stairs.

Yet I whine and grumble and complain about things I perceive I need in my life.  I keep chasing that ever illusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow as though that will finally give me peace and contentment.

I must stop the chase now.  Peace and contentment is within me.  Share.

How coincidental, Em. "Count your blessings" was supposed to be the title of this entry but I changed it just before posting. Thanks.

I took a walk on the beach for about 20 minutes at sunset a couple of days ago. The sky wasn't very clear and the air had a strong fishy odor..probably red tide, as there were a few dead fish on the sand. So I started to head back to my car but then noticed the sun playing peek-a-book from behind the clouds. I stopped & waited for minute. The whole sky turned a blazing red and suddenly several dolphins began feeding not far from where I stood. In only 10 minutes life changed from a gloomy day to a spectacular surprise.

a beach is a beach           I look south and see the Mississippi sound and small islands   I look east or west and see new condos and casinos popping up But looking North I appreciate all the work and hope people are putting into rebuilding Biloxi . I stopped thinking of the people ,places and things I've lost . The people of the gulf coast are making are own rainbows today
