Rebuilding California With Arnold

Published:

Updated:

Dear Fellow-Californians,

Do you remember that time, some 3 years ago, when we went through that long and tedious process of recalling the previous governor, and reasons why we did that?

Do you remember the terrible economic conditions we had that led to this historic recall?

Our state was more than $27 BILLION IN DEBT, workers' compensation rates were rising dramatically, businesses were leaving California, and our vehicle tax had just tripled - just to name a few.

As of today, let us look at what our present governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has accomplished in so short a time:

- Repealed the unfair tripling of the car tax that penalized you and I - hardworking Californians for the mistakes of politicians

- Repealed the law which gave driver licenses to illegal immigrants

- Reformed our workers' compensation system that will fight fraud, save businesses billions of dollars and protect injured workers

- Passed 2 state budgets with no tax increases (and he is on track to pass a third)

- Defeated a number of special interest ballot initiatives that would have raised taxes, hurt businesses, watered own the 3-Strikes Law, and undercut his ability to control growth of gambling throughout California

Yes, all these were done in just 3 short years.  And there is much more:

- 500,000 new jobs created

- $17.4 BILLION increase in state revenue, all without raising taxes.

To me, all of the above are good enough reasons to RE-ELECT SCHWARZENEGGER, but there is more, which I will share with you next time...

Arnold's just another politician that speaks out of both sides of his mouth to suit himself. If you do some checking you'll see he's also signed quite a few bills in favor of illegal immigrants. He also tried to pass a law that all dogs and cats will be euthanized within 72 hours of being picked up, without any attempts to contact the owners (even if they have tags or a chip). And all other pets (reptiles, rabbits, etc..) will be euthanized immediately. Of course it didn't pass, but it was one of his ways of trying to save money, with no regards to calif tax paying residents... He did pass a law for no smoking in prisons, and at the same time spent a couple hundred grand of tax payers money to build a smoke house in the capitol so he can smoke his $25 cigars while conducting meetings. Which turned out to be built illegally, after it flooded everything... Is he better then the other candidate? yeah he probably is the lesser of 2 evils...but far from the goody 2 shoes guy some make him out to be. He's just another politician. what more can i say! Don't worry i won't be votin for either one...

Considering the amount of well steeped socialism, PC, tort, illegals woven into the fabric of California .... seems he's doing the best he can with what he has to work with. One person can't single-handedly right all the wrongs accumulated over at least 60 years. However, I have my nose pressed up to the glass looking in.

OMG! Really? I was going to write something positive, but I change my mind.

Oops. Error. 500,000 new jobs created should have been 600,000 new jobs and counting.

And here's much more:
- California now invests more than $10,000 each year per pupil - the highest ever in Caliofrnia's history. Schwarzenegger has increased that number both years he has been in office.
- Over the past 2 years, the Governor delivered more than $2.6 billion to schools for construction projects, more classrooms for more students.
-Training for much needed nurses was expanded with $124 million boost from the Governor
-Protected community college fees from being increased to keep them the lowest in the nation.
-Promoting the well-being of young Californians by banning sugary soft drinks and offering more fruits and vegetables in school cafeterias, and consistently advocating after-school and physical fitness program.

I could go on and on - in the matter of infrastructure, the environment, transportation, security, federal funding, etc ... Better, I'll blog on them.

Yes, the gov is doing the best he can, not only with WHAT he has to work with but also with WHOM he has to work with. As you may know, California is notorious for gridlocks in the state legislature. But in spite of all that, the gov is doing a great job.

That's exactly what I've heard from a friend who's lived in California for years and is very active in grass roots political issues.

Some of the "plans" the WHO'S hatch in California rival "Dumb and Dumber Redux" so you have to question the minds it come spilling out of ... no logic whatsoever, no consideration of peripheral or future impact, only emotional vote buying propositions.

Konformthis, please send me a link to something concrete relative to your claims. Everyone knows I am not a Right Wing conservative and rarely vote Republican, but I just want the truth, which as we both know is so hard to know in politics. I don't live in CA, but I've always respected Mr. Schwarzenegger's views. I never liked his fellow Republican's label "Liberal Republican" because a don't believe a member of either party needs to lean to the Left or the Right. He should represent the PEOPLE, not just the PARTY. It sounds as if this Governor has listened to the people, but I'm so far away from CA that I only know what I hear and read. I'm sorry for the long comment, but I want to paste below the articles from groups like the ASPCA or even PETA, a very radical Animal Rights group, that both applaud him for his actions. I would like to read something about the mass killing of pets you describe, since I can't find anything to support it.

**Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed a law that will ban the sale and production of foie gras in California beginning in 2012.**

**California Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger just signed into law a bill that would prohibit people from tethering their dog(s) to any stationary object for more than 3 hours.**

**Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed into law SB 1578, a bill to ban dog chaining as a primary means of confinement. With the enactment of SB 1578, California becomes the second state to addess dog chaining at the state level.**

**ASPCA is proud to have been the sponsor of a humane euthanasia bill that was signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger on October 7, 2005. **

**Schwarzenegger signed two other bills last week to enhance pet safety. One law will make it a crime for pet owners to carelessly leave animals unattended in vehicles during dangerous conditions, and the other increases the penalty for causing any animal to fight with another animal to one year or less in the county jail or up to a $5,000 fine, or both. A second fighting offense may result in prison time or a $25,000 fine, or both.**

**The Animal Protection Institute (API) applauds Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for signing into law a bill that will implement, enforce, and improve the state’s existing exotic animal laws.**

**Bill Number:   SB 1028 Signed by Governor Schwarzenegger on October 7, 2005
Prohibits individuals from killing birds or mammals in California using Internet hunting. This bill came about as a result of the establishment of an Internet Hunting Ranch in Texas.**

What am I missing??

A lot of the top news (ABC, CNN, LA TImes, Etc...) Has already been deleted because of the date being awhile back or it's something they don't us to remember. But i do remember! It wasn't a bill for the people to vote on, it was being pushed behind closed doors by Arnold. But when the people got wind of it, he had to quickly change his mind as well as position on the issue because of all the backlash. I currently don't own any pets, but i feel if they want to charge for tags, chips, etc... with the understanding you'll be notified if your pet is picked up, then they should do it. And not be allowed to change the law without having the people vote on it.

I agree, Konformthismfs. Not arguing with you. Just have one of those "Enquiring Minds!" I'll check out the link you provided. Thanks. I know what a politician thinks and what he does are often 2 different things. I usually care most about the latter, because that is what has the greatest effect.

Southern California, with its warm, sunny climate, is indeed a crowded place. And the region's developers, residents and politicians all been willing participants in pushing civilization further into the wilderness.
