REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE WINDOWS XP START MENU

Published:

Do you know that it's you that's using your computer? If you're note so sure, you can just look at the top of your Start menu and there you are. I think it's annoying that my user name appears on my Start menu. If you feel the same, here's how to remove it.

Click on Start, Run, and then type "regedit" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key.

Navigate to:

Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Now create a new DWORD value by right-clicking in the right pane, clicking on New and then DWORD Value. Type in the name "NoUserNameInStartMenu" (no quotes here either) and press the Enter key. Now double-click on your new attribute and give it a value of 1, where 1 equals hide user name and 0 equals display user name. Click OK and close out.

If the NonameInStartMenu value already exists, just change the Value Data to 1.

Now you can restart Windows and your name will no longer appear at the top of your Start menu.

If more than one person uses a computer, the name feature can be useful to see who you're logged in as. If you only have one login on the PC, it doesn't serve much purpose.
