Did you read the comments? Conversation about Fox's detour to the left thanks to the Murdoch sons. They are both liberal and married to flaming liberals so they want to make major changes. The Senior Murdoch better get a handle on them or has he checked out of the business?
I haven't been to the theater since Titanic...and that was what? 20 yrs. ago? I decided not long after that I wouldn't subsidize those who looked down on me, ridiculed where I lived and my core beliefs. It was a little difficult at first, not watching the latest blockbusters or some of my favorite TV shows, but not long after the Internet arrived for me and I haven't looked back. I can watch or listen to anything I want online and while they can scream "Thief!" all they want, I justify it as taking back from the crooks who stole from me in the first place. After all, I subsidized them for decades, now they can give some of my money back in the form of free entertainment.
Besides, while there have been some great movies and some recent fantastic TV programs, by and large the content of those flicks and shows has been dreck. I don't mind cursing if it's germane to the situation - soldiers or roughnecks or hoodlums, but foul language is no substitute for clever and well-written dialogue. Ditto for sex - in the "old" days of TV and film, a man and a woman would kiss and lie down on the bed, then the scene would fade to black. Everyone knew what happened next, but not now; nowadays they're more graphic and while it's not exactly X-rated, the simulation adds nothing to the plot. Plus, they also feel the need to put in some gay story line and while I am a conservative who has nothing against people living their lives as they see fit, to add a homosexual side-plot that brings nothing to the story is gratuitous. Why pander to 3% of the population?
And don't they realize their public rants do not help with their portrayal of the character on screen? I loved Breaking Bad, enjoyed Bryan Cranston in both it and Malcolm in the Middle, he's a talented actor, but when I recently watched "All the Way", the LBJ biopic, I couldn't get past thinking "Hey Cranston, you said you were gonna move out of the country if Trump won, you S.O.B.!" Ditto for Streep and Penn and a bunch of others.
I also resent their lectures to me on things like climate change, esp. when THEIR carbon footprint for a week is multiple times that of mine for the entire year! I'll start believing climate change is urgent when THEY start ACTING like it's urgent.
I could write thousands more words, but...
/rant off.
I used to enjoy the Academy Awards, even though now and then some winner would try to advance their pet agenda, but here lately it's been nothing but a conservative hate-fest, lapped up by the sycophants in the audience, both at the venue and watching on TV, not to mention the enabling media.
I'm all for ANYONE having free speech, but it's not fair these people who get paid handsomely for playing make-believe get more people hanging on their every ignorant word than do others who actually know something about the issue. It's been attributed to several different actors, but I think it was the great Robert Duvall said actors should "just shut up and act". I don't know his politics and don't care...esp. since he doesn't prattle on about it.
