Off the subject here - a friend's son is almost 18 and just started his first year of college. Recruiters from the Army have been practically stalking him. She told me they came to her apartment and then actually took him away for hours. He came back saying they were brow-beating him to enlist no matter how much he said he wanted to stay in college.

I want to add that my last comment was in no means meant to be political. I was just telling a true story that bothered me. When I spent Thanksgiving with her family they were discussing it. I don't know if being Black has anything to do with it, but she was very upset because he's only 17 and they've been pressing him to join. I didn't realize this was standard procedure.

Interesting comment, Nancy. We had two recruiters come to our house looking for my younger son who was also 18. Fortunately he was at work. Pretty freaky though having a couple Army dudes in the berets and camos tucked into their jack-boots showing up at my door. Never heard of targeted door-to-door recruiting before.

Okay, so they're not just targeting minorities. (although I can only tell what you look like from your Avatar! lol)   It might not be true, but I've read articles that accuse the armed forces of having a disproportionate number of minorities. Some people say that economic class is the key, not race. I guess the powers that be figure that some of our children should be blowing up people while the others watch them do it on a wide-screen tv set eating popcorn.
