Sounds like it's about shot out. Definitely time for a new one. Welcome to Windows 10, the worst OS ever! You did good to get 7 years out of a laptop.

It is my nature to help:

These refurbs are great deals, a computer either works or it doesn't out of the box, I've purchased dozens from the local store here to deliver to customers etc..

I prefer Dells and lenovos, the HP's come with a lot of unnecessary marketing software that I remove adding time to a set up, if you go win 10 make sure you don't default on the setup read each choice, it affects your privacy.

The black blocks are either the display itself failing or the graphics section got injured with the spill, the keyboard is damaged, you can get a usb keyboard super cheap plug it in and it will auto install, and if you have an old monitor your laptop probably has a VGA out, and a keyboard board hot key combo switches it on and off. for eg the Fn key and the F6 keys together.

If you get a new computer with Win 10, Classic Shell http://classicshell.net/ which is free will help you to be able to navigate Win 10 similar to Win 7. If any techies know about any issues with Classic Shell please let Amber know. Good luck!
