Trump threatened to stop trade with any country that does business with North Korea, and that would be an economic disaster news 8 hours ago Business Insider

After North Korea's latest nuclear threat, President Donald Trump threatened to cut off all US trade with any country that does business with the rogue nation.

"The United States is considering, in addition to other options, stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea," he tweeted Sunday.

Though highly unlikely to happen, that option would be nothing short of a total disaster for the US economy and the greater global economy as a whole.

Many countries have trade relations with North Korea at some level. While China dominates the trade market with North Korea, a number of other prominent US trading partners have a minimal economic relationship with the country.

At least 10 of the top 30 trading partners of the US do some level of business in North Korea. Those 10 nations include five of the top 10 US trading partners, and two of those are in the top three. Ending all trade with those nations would lead to the halting of roughly $1.6 trillion in total trade, according to 2016 data, and of more than $520 billion in US exports.

China, the nation Trump appeared to be most closely calling out in the tweet, is the largest US trading partner, with roughly $600 billion in trade happening between the two countries on an annual basis. Other countries that would be affected by such a move include India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Brazil, France, Germany, Thailand, and Russia. 2015 data showed that those countries were importing goods such as silver, fork-lifts, and computers from North Korea while exporting pesticides, felt machinery, and sculptures.

With those consequences obvious, the threat hasn't been taken too seriously.

"We think there is little prospect of Trump carrying out his threat to 'stop all trade with any country doing business with North Korea' given that the US imported $479 [billion] of goods and services from China last year," international economist Andrew Kenningham wrote Tuesday in a Capital Economics note.

"But as 86% of North Korea's exports go to China, the US may impose additional targeted sanctions on Chinese entities and individuals which are doing business with North Korea. This in turn could provoke some retaliation from Beijing."

Trump is using economic means to settle the dispute with North Korea. Sanctions against other nations pulls them into the discussion on how to solve the problem with North Korea.

I would prefer these sanctions rather than an all out war.

Let's face it, Trump has diarrhea of the mouth. He is saying things that makes one think that he is in his early stages of dementia. If he is allowed to stop trading with China it would wreck our economy and have a devastating effect on the world markets. Anyone that has had economics knows that this is a bold face lie and unbelievable. Kim is laughing at Trump because he knows that he is in Trump's head. If Trump isn't careful with his rhetoric he is going to cause a confrontation with NK that will result in catastrophic destruction like never before.

Kim is the one that is aching for war. Kim has been taunting Trump since the inauguration. I believe past administrations have been paying off North Korea to keep their cool.

Kim has 6 years of experience. He is being taught by the old guards the ways of taunting . Trump is no match for the games he plays. Kim is reckless, cruel, and a murderer. He is unstable, and will do anything to provoke confrontation and play mind games.

I've read China has stuff made in North Korea with "made in China" labels. Since a lot of stuff with "made in China" labels is sold in this country, we may be one of those country.

Listen, you guys. Trump's mouth is writing a check that NOBODY can cash in on. First, and fore most, Trump will NEVER stop doing business with China 'cause that's where the bulk of his $hit is made! Can I get an AMEN? Secondly, the U.S. can NEVER stop doing business with China....'cause we owe them just a little bit of money:

https://www.thebalance.com/u-s-debt-to-china-how-much-does-it-own-3306355

-The U.S. debt to China is $1.102 trillion, as of May 2017.-

Yeah.....that. He may sell some of you wolf cookies, snake oil, a cow egg, a fish paw, or what ever else. Ain't happenin' here, though. Republicans may as well just get ready 'cause they already have a well-working model on what to do...and it's in IRAN...and Obama worked it out for us. Wait, can hear that? Not a word on Iran 'cause things are under control as Iran is meeting ALL of the prerequisites in order to establish peace.

Trump and the Republicans actually hate to admit it but, they can neither deny it. Now, Putin did say that the North Korean's would rather eat grass than to give up their nuke program. My black azz would surely test thst theory and here's why:

The following is the second bullet right under the pictures:

-Forbidden subjects include malnourished people, child labourers and a man collecting grass to eat.-

Obama really should've brought him to his knees but, we just don't know what that d@mned fool will do to S. Korea. It really is tough but, Trump has drawn a whole picture by now, let alone a red line. He had options, just gotta play chess now.
