The author of that piece, Saul Cornell, is a rabid gun control advocate who was paid over a half million dollars just for that one article from The Joyce Foundation, an organization that has assets of close to a billion dollars and contributes tens of millions of dollars each year to anti-gun lobbyists and groups.

I skimmed through the article, so I didn't read EVERY single word, but I wonder how is it that Cornell, a "Constitutional scholar and expert" failed to mention when comparing U.S. laws with those of European common law that none of those countries has a Constitution explicitly guaranteeing the right to keep and bear arms as we do? Plus, if you're going by original intent and the meaning of a word, the term “militia” is explicitly defined as “all able-bodied persons residing in the State except those exempted by law."

What did the Founding Fathers "mean" by the 2nd Amendment? What about what they wrote down in black and white? (and just a few quotes, there are at least ten times this many but I know *some* of the commenters in this thread will think my post as tl;dnr because their attention span and reading comprehension are both limited. They, and the rest of you know who I'm referring to)

In the Federalist Papers, James Madison clearly states the reason for citizens to bear arms is to counter an oppressive govt.
