Brilliant proposal. If they want to protest they can do it on their own dollars.

WHY in the world are they getting subsidies? If they need money so badly take some of the money they pay those over rated crybabies.

Thanks Sully. I suppose those government bonds were originally issued on the basis of increased revenue to counties where it's built. I believe the crisis they brought upon themselves will necessitate a rethinking of how all of this should be done in the future, if it's done.

Granted, I didn't look up the financing of every NFL franchise's stadium, but did delve a little bit into that of the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium; the owner, Jerry Jones, is on the hook for 2/3 of the cost and Arlington sold municipal bonds and is levying hotel and rental car fees and admission taxes on each ticket sold. Tarrant Co. also chipped in something like $25 million for new roads and parking lots around the facility.

No where did I see that federal funds were used in the construction of the stadium. Maybe I don't understand how municipal bonds work, but I've never seen anything to suggest there are matching federal funds, just that any interest earned is free from federal income tax...which is NOT the definition of a subsidy. (We all get tax breaks, individuals and corporations alike) No, I think the entire cost is born out by the owner(s) of the teams plus whatever local entities put into it.

I've also read that the stadium is well ahead of the payback schedule for Jones' share and increased business in the area has helped in ensuring the bonds will be paid back ahead of time, as well.

So, the way I see it, AT&T Stadium isn't costing me a dime, nor will it ever unless I attend a game or rent a car or hotel room in the city. Also, as much as I've historically disliked the Giants, I find it admirable that theirs and the Jet's new shared facilities, MetLife Stadium, was built totally with private funds.
