We don't have a gun problem. We have a society problem.

Published:

It's not a gun problem, it's a society problem.

We live in a society that has no respect for human life.

We live in a society where every petty little disagreement or argument results in someone pulling a knife or a gun to settle it.

We live in a society where if you bump into some one, or accidentally step on someone's foot while walking through a crowd, they want to shoot you because they feel disrespected.

We live in a society where there is no longer any respect for parents, teachers, elders, laws, customs, or authority.

We live in a society where no one treats people courteously, politely, or has good manners. Saying please and thank you used to be the norm. Now it's the exception. Why is that?

We live in a society where you get murdered by a 15 year old because he wants to prove he deserves to be in a gang.

We live in a society where that same 15 year old will murder several more people because he wants to have street cred.

We live in a society where you can not give an honest opinion about anything, because every one gets upset and says, you're not being politically correct.

We live in a society where we have metal detectors at schools because kids think it's alright to bring guns to school to settle a beef with a classmate or a bully.  Where did they get that idea?

We live in a society where one kid will film another kid, hitting someone in the face with a pair of brass knuckles,  and then post it on face book or you tube.

How did we get like this?

Guns have been around for centuries. But we didn't have all this other stuff 30 years ago. It's not a gun problem. It's a society problem. And that problem starts in the home. Think about that.

While what you say is true. I mean I know of pleanty that feel and say in the old days I’d meet you in the parking lot or playground after school and settle it, but now kids settle things with guns. I hear ya, I do. And yes these kids today that think guns solve their problems have a lot of learning and facing up to do in the real world. But also think for a second, what would make a ‘kid’ feel the need to use a gun to settle a dispute or issue? Being a kid is not easy let’s face it. Not all of us had parents that were there for us. So, while I hear you, I also disagree with you in the sense of if you think about how many guns are available in this country compared to how many citizens are in this country, yes we do have a gun problem. For real.

Yes Gr. For eg. DC schools this year high school graduation rate is 40% and they spend +$30,000 per student per year, it is societal dysfunction, family last, and a meds first approach to raising kids the past twenty five years. They have no respect, discipline, or moral guidance is schools from the liberal leftist idiot teachers unions taking God and country out of the schools and replacing them with political correctness.

SPOT-ON. Grwurston.
@ Soledad): I disagree with you, to me you're disagreeing with your eye's closed. If these kids today had responsible parents, or Guardians this wouldn't be happening. It is the adult who has let them down, because they're too busy socially. Take away these games that promote Violence, and get tough on them, will set them on the right course. The amount of guns that are out there, has absolutely nothing to do with it.

My eyes are not closed to put it mildly. I can tell things about people and see people doing things very quickly. Now there are at least enough guns in this country for every single citizen to have one. Yet, not every citizen does have one. So why do these gun owners feel that they need 5 or 10 or 20 guns in order to fee safe? Well, to place everyone’s mindset or thinking on the same plane is having one’s eyes closed. I said in my comment that not every kid has their parents there for them. And we know that most guardians are really in it for the money, not for the kids well being. The debate on video games and violence, as well as movies and music, was had years ago and the debate was lost. Freedom of speech etc. Now the gun owners are carrying on about right to bear arms etc. This debate will not be won.

But I applaud you for trying to find a common ground answer. However, it is almost impossible to compare one person to the next.
