That target wasn't so soft.
God Family and Guns on YouTube advocates armed teachers, and even a National Guardsman on campuses.
That makes more sense than banning guns and kids doing walkouts.

Good Lord!! So, I guess this means we simply IGNORE the following:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/maryland-authorities-investigating-shooting-at-high-school/2018/03/20/4deeadee-2c39-11e8-8ad6-fbc50284fce8_story.html?utm_term=.0f8362575a4e

- *The shooter, identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins, 17, was hit and later died at a hospital.-

Um, just what in hell was he even doing with a gun, LET ALONE AT SCHOOL WITH IT, at this age?? He got it ILLEGALLY from somewhere or someone...end of story. This shooting, it seems, was based on an emotional break up between the deceased shooter...and the girl he killed. Also, the deceased shooter put the gun to his own head wanting to take his own life according to eyewitness reporting.

-He said he saw a classmate with a gun to his own head as a school resource officer rounded a corner at the Southern Maryland school. Tichenor ducked back inside the classroom as he heard shouting.-

Yaaay!! The seven-teen year old kid was fortunate enough to get his hands on a gun, bring it to school, put it to his head, AND kill his ex-girlfriend...before being put down himself. Man, I'm sure glad they didn't have metal detectors and scanners at the entry so the buzzer wouldn't go off and ALERT SECURITY that something ain't right in THAT BACKPACK. Yep, so glad.

Then, we have this:

https://nypost.com/2018/03/20/maryland-high-school-on-lockdown-after-shooting-officials/

-Last month, two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested for making a “mass threat” to Leonardtown High School — which is about 15 minutes from Great Mills — and bragging that they were “too smart to get caught,” according to WJLA.

Twenty-five guns — including semi-automatic rifles, handgun-

Yeeeaaahhh, buddy!!!! I tell ya what, I'm for one certainly glad that all these d@mned UNDER AGE TEENS are running around MORE HEAVILY ARMED THAN OUR OFFICERS!!

That's the whole point dummkopf! You just unwittingly argued the the previous poster's position on preventing mass casualties when some nutcase starts shooting. Banning guns is not going to stop anybody from acquiring a gun when that individual is hellbent on killing people! That individual is going to acquire a gun one way or another. This may be shocking to you, but criminals are notorious for not obeying gun laws! Only law-abiding citizens obey gun laws. Do you see a possible problem there? By ILLEGAL means is the usual/preferred way of acquiring a gun for criminals (or anybody else otherwise not eligible to possess a firearm). Making everybody go through metal detectors would be a nice touch, but its a monumental task and does not guarantee safety. Schools are large sprawling buildings with numerous points of access for a somebody that wants to come in and start shooting and killing people. Where there's a will, there's a way! Especially if the individual is ready to die anyway. Therefore it is imperative for armed police officers and/or armed teachers to be in the schools to prevent this type incident from occurring or otherwise minimizing the carnage if it does occur. Thankfully, this incident wasn't any worse than it was.

I just went back and read the account on Reuters. It was written 6 hours ago. It said the resource officer and the assailant shot at each other simultaneously after which the attack ended.
You know, if a person intent on causing harm at a school rolls up and sees a humvee with a National Guardsman on duty, that person is going to have second thoughts. That school is no longer a soft target. Remember, he wants to kill as many people as he can before getting caught or killed.

No doubt about it, thanks rcbbuckeye! It was yet another unfortunate/tragic occurrence involving loss of life of an innocent victim at the hands of a homicidal maniac, but would almost certainly have been worse if not for the presence of the SRO to quickly confront and neutralize the shooter.
