Mother is Coming (Oh Goody!)

Yes, it's that time again. I was just looking at my blog and saw that her last visit was in Feb. 2015! Over two years. Wait a minute...make that 3 years! Seems like yesterday, though, lol.

A lot has happened. She was supposed to be here for last Thanksgiving. Then it got postponed to Christmas. But that didn't happen. We'll see if she really arrives on Mother's Day as planned.

Ole mom had a rough year in 2017. First she took a big fall and landed on her face when grocery shopping with sis at the Kroger's. Her knee swole up like a grapefruit but she healed up just fine. Nothing broken. Then there was the scam....

Oh...you didn't hear about the scam? OMG. How many times do we read about these things? How many times has my mother warned me about "don't do this...watch out for that...you know you have be careful when you..."blah blah blah. It figures that SHE'S the one that gets it,lol.

Two "workmen" with vests show up at her house. Tell her they saw a squirrel running up on her roof into the attic. Why she even opened the door in the first place is beyond me. Needless to say but they scammed her out of a lot of money for going up on the roof. There was no squirrel.

She calls my sister at work and says,"Gee, I hope I didn't get scammed." then proceeds to tell her the story. My sister just about went through the roof. My mother called the police and reported it. They showed up,took it all down. Before the police left they told her DO NOT TO OPEN THE DOOR.

An hour later 2 different "workmen" show up. My mother opens the door AGAIN. AGAIN she gets scammed about something or other. They led her outside and I think one of the guys went inside and stole some more money. What was going on in her mind? I have no idea. The first two must have called up their friends and said, "Hey,we got a real sucker. You know lottolaughs mom? Yeah, that's the one. Here, put these vests on. She'll let you right in."

I tell ya...the thing that flabberghasted me most about the whole thing was not that it happened but that MY MOTHER OPENED THE DOOR!! LOL

Growing up my mother NEVER answered the door. When the doorbell rang she'd always say "NOW WHO?" Never the welcoming wagon,my mother. Many a time I remember her peeking out the curtain and her hushing me. Funny, I have an aversion to opening the door myself. I never do either. Guess where I got THAT from?

So that she actually opened the door...and to strangers...just blows my mind.

My sister finally got off work and packed up my mother and took her to her house. Mom really can't be trusted anymore. It kind of scared us. Well, she just turned 80 so I guess it's to be expected.

Sis put the house on the market. It sold in a couple of months. We knew Mom couldn't live alone anymore. That was it. Mom never went back again since "scam" day. Talk about your life changing in a moment.

My sister decided to build an extra room onto the house so Mom could have some privacy. (I think it's more for my sister...just sayin',lol) After 6 months it's finally finished and my mother actually got to "move in" to it just this week. She won't have much time to enjoy it before coming here.

This visit is supposed to last 2 months. Usually her visits are 2 WEEKS and by day 8 or so I am starting the countdown to when the visit is over, lol. But this time......whew....can't start the countdown that early. I don't know what I'm going to do,lol.

Well, they say when one door closes, another opens. It won't be long now before I will HAVE to open the door and there will be my mother wheeling her luggage in and chattering away about the whole SuperShuttle ride to my house and how come the neighbor still has his garbage can out...and why do I still have that half dead plant on the porch and why is the earth round and.....why why this...and how come that....and oh, yes....what was I saying?

Mother is Coming...(OH GOODY!!) See Ya!

Both enjoy & Be Blessed :-)

"When one door closes, another opens," said inventor Alexander Graham Bell. "But we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened."

When she does arrive at your home tell her NOT to open the door. If she wearing a vest don't let her in. LOL

Brenda, my wife and I live in an assisted living facility, most of the residents are females. We have two black ladies & 3 gentleman. One of the ladies sits with my wife and I in the dining room. She is a retired teacher, her memory is almost all gone and has a separate care giver in the day time. Her cousin handles her finances. My name, Bob is the only name she remembers. Her cousin nor the facility doesn't why? I buy sugar free creamer for her, my wife and I. She loves it!!!

Lottolaughs,
Be thankful Mother is coming. There are a lot of Daughters and Sons out there who wish their Mother would be coming for a visit. Mothers have a way of creating the impossible, but just cherish what she does and says while you can. Just think what she went through bringing up her children, that should give you a laugh or two, or a Lottolaughs.
