North Carolina's men's basketball team will likely be ranked number one in the polls when they are released on Monday. This will be a result of the Tar Heels' impressive 84-58 victory tonight against Florida State in its ACC season opener. This, coupled with Oregon's upset of then top-ranked UCLA on Saturday will create UNC's newfound pinnacle of achievement this season. This will mark yet another season of the Heels being #1. Only 3 seasons in the past 20 have the Tar Heels failed to take the top spot at some point in the season.
The Seminoles 12-4, 0-2 ACC) hung tough with North Carolina (14-1, 1-0) much of the first half, in fact, holding an early 11-8 lead. Then UNC flexed its offensive and defensive muscle, defeating its 8th consecutive opponent by 20 points or more. The Tar Heels also won their 11th straight game in the process.
The Tar Heels next play Virginia Wednesday night at home at 9:00. Virginia was defeated tonight at home on a last second shot by Stanford.
