Sadly, this unorthodox action is unheard of in historical church annals; perhaps elderly priest suffering from early Alzheimer disease ?? - certain there will be punitive reactions from the Vatican.

Native Americans have always taught their babies not to cry since birth. They would pinch their noses or press cloths to their noses, forcing the mouth to breathe instead of vocalize. This measure was to ensure either attackers would not find them or their hunts would not be disturbed.
