Destroying the thing that you are protesting always seemed like such a waste. When the Harry Potter books have been burned for one reason or the other (such as with the announcement that Dumbledore is gay), the author, JK Rowling says it's no skin off her teeth...the people have already bought the books and the money is in her pocket.

Maybe the people didn't want to donate them to something like The Salvation Army and have the less fortunate advertising for Nike, but burning them seems like such a waste. I would use them for rags before destroying them.

I think a better action would be to write/call/email the company and voice your displeasure. After that, doing the same with any entity that accepts their advertising. If a magazine has Nike ads, cancel your subscription but make sure the publishing outfit knows why. Do the same with any TV show or even the network upon which it airs.   Get your like-minded friends to do the same.

Boycotting the product works, of course, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Voice your displeasure!

I wear Brooks. The best sneakers. I don’t really wear anything by Nike. But if I got them for free, I would wear them no matter what. I always wanted one of those MikeTown hats, from the old days of Tyson in Brooklyn. But had to settle for Niketown instead. And yeah it was free. An old girl I used to know had one of those Just Do Me T-shirt’s. Lol. Nike.

I don't own a pair of Nike, but if I did I would not burn them in protest. It just shows a person's ignorance of police profiling, police brutality, and police violent against people of color. It also shows one inability to show compassion for something that is real that effects millions of people of color on a daily basis. It also shows a lack of empathy for people of color whose plight you can't relate to.
