Social Security phone scam reported across the country

This particular scam involves criminals using a technique called “spoofing” to make an incoming call appear as if it’s coming from a number which it’s really not.

In this case, scamsters are making the SSA’s legitimate customer service number — 1-800-772-1213 — show up on the caller ID.

We get those once in a while.

Never answer, but maybe we should and give them a lot of bogus info.

Thanks JADE. I got that call this morning and it showed on caller ID that it was the SSA. Recorded call then transfer to live person with voice similar to YT videos saying they're from Microsoft and something wrong with your computer. BS meter cracked when I heard that voice so hung up immediately.

Called SSA to verify whether anything was amiss. Was on hold for about an hour but SSA verified nothing wrong and said it was an active scam.
