Only a ghost wallows around in his past, explaining himself with descriptors based on a Life already lived.  You are what you choose today, not what you've chosen before.

I recently asked a woman I met at work to stop calling me so much. I doubt if she will call me again. She was always telling me negative things about the job, the people and even what they were saying behind my back. She said that was just being a good friend. Sometimes she called me on my cell phone minutes after she overheard someone talking about me. As an adult, I know I am responsible for making my own decisions, but I think all the negativity influenced me, although I would have eventually left since I didn't approve of the company's ethics. 4 weeks after leaving I'm still getting these calls, so I said I needed to concentrate on more positive things. She asked it we could continue to be friends. I said "Sure, I like you. Let's not talk so much about XXXXX and all the crap that go on there." She continued to call me every day of the week, including Sat & Sun. Sometimes I said I was busy but we had some nice chats until she would bring up "He did this and she did that!" often raising her voice so I'd lower the volume level on my phone. I'd listen, but it would be the same complaints all the time, often mentioning something another person said about me. So I kept reliving that bad experience over and over again, although I was trying to put it behind me and move forward. Unfortunately, something she told me last week is unresolved and I am full of anxiety. I posted this comment in response to your daily lesson. If you have one about "gossip" and how unsubstantiated rumors can hurt people, I'll continue! :-)

So I guess what I am trying to say is that she was my ghost and every time I got off the phone I was haunted once again by terrible thoughts and anxiety. Please understand that I'm blaming nobody for my own actions, but only saying how it's important to sever a relationship that keeps taking you back to a place you don't want to go.
