Animals Get Cold Too

This isn't going to be a long, fancy post.  I just wanted to write that I live in a very hot climate, but it's cold and windy today, so I thought of all the animals I see running loose.  Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s in some areas, with a possible freeze inland.

Some people own dogs and cats and think that, because they have fur coats or maybe just because they're not human, these animals don't need the warmth and shelter that we do on a chilly evening.  Although I'm opposed to any pet being kept outside, if you don't take yours in at night, please make sure he has plenty of protection from the cold air and a comfortable, dry place to sleep.

All any dog or cat ever wants is food, water, shelter and a little love.  I think that's something all of us can afford.

I feel that if it's too cold out for myself. It's too cold out for an animal. I have told people when I see their animals outside that it's too cold for them, and they don't seem to care, some of them.

They'll say that the animal has fur, and I tell them that the air goes through the pets fur to their bodies, and it's too cold for them.

Even a dog house for a dog is too cold if it's not insulated and doesn't have blankets.

Animals have the same rights as people.!

Good point. After seeing how people treat animals on that show Animal Cops, on the animal channel, I sometimes wonder if I should apply for a position as an officer.

The weirdest thing just happened as I was writing the last part of the paragraph above. Felt like I wrote the exact same thing a few months ago, deja vu....Very strange feeling...

Thanks everyone for your comments. Pac, maybe you should consider it, although it can be very frustrating and disturbing. I'm not strong enough. I've watched those programs and it is a very physical job. I'm not so sure Lee County would be the best place. (see my story below) They need stricter laws in most areas in the country. I mean, if babies are dying from being rapes & beaten because the system doesn't work, think of how many pets don't get saved in time. BTW, I was so happy to hear that the 2 men in Georgia got 10 years. Hope there's no appeal. I wish I hadn't read the story however. I won't even describe the crime on this board. Why give other people nightmares?

TC, there is an Animal Planet show on the Michigan Humane Society. A lot of people tie their dogs up in the winter and leave them to sleep in the snow. I'll never understand it. Why get a pet? 3 years ago I "stole" a dog who was tied up to a tree down the street. It was raining and in the 40s. He was wet, shivering and crying and living in his own poop. I can't describe how this dog acted when I finally got him out of my car and to a safer place. Everyone will think I'm crazy. Hope he had a better life with his new owner. I wasn't able to follow up.

Great to see someone else believes in shelter for our animals, we own a kitten that we adopted from an animal shelter not long ago and our baby girl bianca ( four year old Maltese) that we rescued a few years ago. we have indoor housing for both in the cold weather, they have thier our beds and cloths, except that bianca sleeps with us under a blanket and we gave her a pillow, Just touches my heart that their should be more heart felt people out their no matter where they live We live in NY thanks again for your story .
