The Long Peace

Published:

Ever since the end of World War 2 there has been a long peace throughout the World. With the exception of Proxy Wars in Korea and Vietnam.

Peace lovers throughout the World have worked tirelessly to maintain the peace. The United Nations peacekeepers settle the differences between feuding parties after they get sick of fighting each other.

Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria are in the news because they are not the norm. The rest of the World is enjoying Peace.

This has seen advancements in Medicine, Computers, and Artificial Intelligence "AI". To name a few of the bright spots.

"The rest of the World is enjoying Peace."

There's two ways of looking at that, I think; one might say that the rest of the world is enjoying peace because the U.S. is the one fighting to protect them. Switzerland is often touted as a nation who is peaceful and remains neutral, but it seems to me that they merely allowed other countries to fight and die for their freedom, namely during WWII. If Hitler had more success in the USSR and the Allies not started up multiple fronts, then the Axis would have eventually rolled over them.

I don't think much of U.N. peacekeepers - there have been multiple instances of the "blue helmets" standing by, doing nothing while people were getting killed directly in front of them. There have also been hundreds and hundreds of accounts of crimes and human rights violations committed by United Nations soldiers, peacekeepers, and employees. (<from Wiki, where they list them)

I've read articles that say America has been at war for over 90% of our existence. Sounds horrible, huh? Well, I've also read that it has been calculated that in the last 3,500 years, there have been just 230 years of peace throughout the civilized world.

Your points are good. The Swiss would have put up a good defensive war.
I suppose that the U.N. peacekeepers are in it for the paycheck.
I hope that this long peace continues with improvements.
