"Today, black boxes are fire-proof, ocean-proof and encased in steel." They are NOT indestructible, however. While they are "fire and ocean" RESISTANT, they can be damaged by prolonged heat and water seepage. Neither flight recorders from the planes that hit the WTC on 9/11 were recovered, most likely pulverized, if not by the impact, then melted by the fire fed by the massive amount of burning aviation fuel and then turned to dust by thousands of tons of debris crashing down on them.

That said, it was an inspiring and informative article; I never had known anything about Warren before reading it.
