From what I know, Guyger had no beef w/ the victim and I never read anything to insinuate that they ever had any interaction. I think it happened just as she said it did, was exhausted, went to an apt. she thought was hers, saw an "intruder" and shot him. At the very most, she should have been charged with manslaughter. Unless she was an actor worthy of an Oscar, I thought her remorse was genuine and believed her when she said she would rather be dead than to have it happen.
I doubt she'll have to serve the entire ten yrs, maybe half that. The city of Dallas and the DPD will now have to steel themselves against the inevitable lawsuit. I can understand that and would not condemn the family for suing the city, but there were protests today against the verdict...and when I read more, saw that they were protesting the "light sentence".
The victim's mother, bless her, was saying something very ignorant, namely that this wouldn't have happened if the police hadn't taught their officers to "shoot someone in the heart". Good grief. They are taught to shoot into "center mass", the biggest part of a human "target". Too many people have watched too much BS TV shows and movies where a gun is shot out of someone's hand. <sigh>
