The Frying Pan, The Egg and IQ
Published:
I just took an online IQ test and my score was 10% lower than it was 40 years ago. I knew I was getting slower, but man...the realization came today when I was trying to figure out how to program a simple light timer. I'm feeling stupid enough already, but after reading the directions and feeling confident I know what I'm doing I try to do it and I can't even read the display and the buttons are so tiny that I had a hard time coordinating the finger to the button. This involves three diminished capacities...intelligence, vision and hand-eye coordination. I feel like I've entered the Twilight Zone. But it's too late to stop partying so I'll just have to get used to it. As long as I can remember my name without looking at my drivers license, I'll be O.K.

RE: Driver's license. I just received my new one in the mail. I ordered it online after receiving a registration number in the mail and paying $15 on my Visa. I never knew they kept my photo and signature in a database. Mt new license has the same photo as the old one taken in March 2001. It just has more holograms (probably telling some government agent what I eat for breakfast) and my photo is shown twice. The nice thing is that it expires in 2013 which means that I will be 12 years older than my picture. I always say I want to live a simpler life, but sometimes modern technology has its rewards.
Nancy, you're lucky your state renews your D.L. that way. We have to go to the DMV every four years to get ours renewed. And that's usually a two hour ordeal. (Better lay off that peach brandy, girl.)
