It is bullsh!t to charge that large of a fee to prepare a simple tax return.

While I don't typically read any Salon articles which is predominantly a far left wing blog, this article does bring to light the unethical tactics of tax preparers who prey on the uninformed. I couldn't believe that a so called debit card charges a monthly fee as well as a fee to check your balance!
It would be nice if someone opened up a tax filing service that had a bit of integrity. Many of these tax preparers are based inside Walmarts and makes it just too easy for poor folks to avoid.
