When I lived near Raleigh, NC and smiled at certain people (older folks) they would look at me with utter shock and amazement. The triangle area where we resided was chocked full of liberals and elitist who wouldn’t give the time of day or respect to the elderly hence the reason for their reaction.
We now reside in Brentwood, TN which is a suburb of Nashville and the folks here wether old or young are much friendlier and not so uptight.

Drenick1 when I lived in Raleigh NC years ago people were not like that...things have changed
a lot since then...haven't been there in a while either...Cary is probably even worse than Raleigh
with the shock of seeing someone smile at older people or at least as bad these days!...but there
are good and bad people everywhere.

...I was walking the other day and if there is such a thing as
having right of way while walking I had it and this young man passed me and if I had not quickly
moved over he would have knocked me down so mean ones are everywhere I guess.
I live in Greensboro, NC now.

Having said that there are a lot of ones that have made up for his bad behavior.
