Excess
Published:
We live in a world of excess, in which how much we own defines who we are. I'd rather be "too much" than buy too much. That way I'll never have to have a garage sale to get rid of myself.

That's all you need in life, a little place for your stuff. That's all your house is: a place to keep your stuff. If you didn't have so much stuff, you wouldn't need a house. You could just walk around all the time. A house is just a pile of stuff with a cover on it. You can see that when you're taking off in an airplane. You look down, you see everybody's got a little pile of stuff. All the little piles of stuff.
Yeah...after buying stuff...they need more stuff. The more stuff you have.....?
When they run out of space to situate their stuff in their house, they have to figure out a way to store the extra stuff they bought....and on and on....Funny stuff...
Here's a true story (that happened to me back in Saint Olaf.) When I first moved to FL I needed a place to put my stuff. I left NH with whatever I could squeeze into my Honda Accord. There was hardly enough room for me! Anyway, I found a place called The Extra Closet that had storage bins for rent. It was just a few very large, air-conditioned, clean buildings with loads and loads of stuff people were storing. I'm sure you all know that storage is big business. At that time, I paid about $11 a month for a few months for a small space so I could empty the trunk of my car and the back seat. Once I met some people who had paid rent for years. I thought they must have been snowbirds who rented their home during the summer and wanted to safely store their belongings, but they were just packrats who couldn't decide what to do with all their stuff. I said that the rent was probably adding up to more than their stuff was worth, but they just couldn't part with it.
Paying for storage for MONTHS and months never made sense to me. Absolutely right that it would exceed the worth of what is being stored.
OH...she's with Dubois..
