high fuel prices

Published:

I got an e-mail from a friend earlier. There's mention of a boycot on May 15th. If nobody buys gas that whole day,the oil companies could lose over 3 billion dollars in revenue and it might bring prices down about 30 cents a gallon. It's 2.84 here in my area now,and they say 4.00 is likely before summer!

But will people then be filling up on May 14th? I'm not trying to be sarcastic (really) but I was thinking of when everyone filled up during some hurricanes and we ran out of gas for miles.

Price today for me was $3.05 for regular 87.   It might be a little less 20 miles from here (I live near the beach) but then I'd have to spend gas to get there!!

Just want to add --- after I read this blog entry I looked at a few articles that say it won't do any good unless we all reduce the amount of gas we use. So people need to change their lifestyle, like taking a bus, carpooling or walking for a week or however long it takes them to use a tank of gas. Otherwise, people will just fill up on May 14 or May 16.

Marine fuel (gas at the dock) is already over four dollars. Olive oil is 18.00 a gallon, Milk is over 6.00 lowfat organic, orange juice 6.00/gal etc. but the beautiful thing and the silver lining is we can get the stuff, I see a lot of people from all over the world in the grocery stores right smack dab in the middle of diplomatically infused neighborhoods just on the borders of D.C. they love the stores, why? because unlike the rest of the world the shelves are always full of whatever their little hearts desire. Diplomats love to come here, and don't think they don't fight to get assigned here. All of them.

because there aren't very many new production facilities for making fuel. the summer blend and the winter blend and the year round blend they sometimes go offline to change over. If the had one or 2 plans just making summer blends and the rest the other blends we would be fine. However it has been said that demand for fuel is nearing their capacity to pump it out of the ground. once the demand surpasses their ability to produce gasoline fast enough, expect to pay a lot more.

You could boycott them for a month or more they would just laugh all the way to the bank. Sooner or latter people will have to buy fuel. You cant beat the guys they have a monopoly on the black gold. Unless a large majority stopped driving gasoline guzzlers and started buying alternate fuel cars. walk, ride bikes use public transportation etc. Even then it would just be a small dent in their profits. As other countries are demanding more fuel as well as the USA.

Jarasan, I agree that we are certainly blessed with the best products. Sometimes I htink we have way too many choices. It's been over 30 years, but my sister went to college in Israel in the 60s/70s and my family would ship toilet paper and other essentials to her so I realized back then I was lucky every time I used the bathroom! Milk doesn't seem high to me, but it must be tough for a family. As people say - it's all relative. I mean, I have neighbors who never go anywhere and they can live on a lot less. (no car expenses, insurance, gas) Even working people can have very different gas budgets. Not everyone can get a job within a few miles of home. Some people need to travel 50 or 100 miles roundtrip everyday and don't have public transportation available.

Also, you'd only be hurting the gas stations not the big wigs. The stations are only making about 5 cents on the dollar, and some I heard recently are just breaking even.

I meant the privately owned franchise companies.

Pac, I once brought that up when people were talking about boycotting Exxon. Good point. The most important thing about a boycott is to make sure the message gets to the right people.

Me too Mike, those energy drinks have way too much caffiene.
