This reminded me of my mother who was a high school teach years ago. When she retired I asked her why. She said "Honey I just can't take it any more." It wasn't just the kids. It was the principal who made life hard for her. When she was up for tenure he dragged it out and she didn't know if she had a job or not. Finally some other teachers went to him and told him either give her a contract or tell you're not so she can move on. She ended up being tenured but it took a toll on her.
She never finished high school. But when in her 40's went to college, graduated and got her Masters in English Lit in 4 years total. Her thesis was on Chaucer! What a woman.
