I said this a hundred & 1 timed already!

Any simple lottery program could win if it had just a frew simple basic items!

1 NUMBERS/DRAWINGS 1,000 MIN

2 SEQUENCIAL ORDER PREFRENCE

3 SUMS

4 GROUPS

5 REPEATING SETS

you don't need much more other than a number generator!

And Andrew is CORRECT about patterns changing due to TREND fluctuation.A trend in a pattern may last a week or just a couple of days that's why a Pro Gambler becomes skilled through PRACTICE in order to track and anticipate trend changes and pattern differences.You would be amazed at what the HUMAN BRAIN can do with training and practice how do you think Card Counters are able too be Professional Casino Gamblers and are usually BANNED from the Casino those guys use systems

based on MATH,PROBABILITY and STATISTICS the very same concepts the Pro Lottery Players use.And it's quite obvious that the Casino's recognise that's it's possible too increase your chances of beating the HOUSE using these systems otherwise they wouldn't BAN them from playing in there establishments.Do you understand this?

Treating a combination of three numbers as a unit. Here is the idea. There are lots of state lotteries with long history. For example in California "Fantasy 5" we have a truckload of historical data that can be analyzed.

As it appears, over the years all the possible combinations of three different numbers have already played. Some of them played only once while some played over ten times. A this moment there are two combinations that played just ones and haven't played for the longest period. The longest not played is 22-23-38 and the second longest is 9-11-25. One of them is quite likely to play near-term, so both of them can be used as a base for projecting the winning combination of five numbers. Two more numbers can be added in accordance with the rules described in my book.

The first thing is to find what works. Then you can automate the whole thing from downloading the history to printing your tickets. The issue I find is that you must find methods that work together well or to some degree. Let's just look at an example. Let's say you are tracking sums, and you have found sum 8 thru 18 to be the most productive. But that alone has too many combinations to play. So you try to reduce the number of combinations by say using 1 digit from the last game. each idea on its own shows you would hit about 50 percent of the time or better. However when you combine the two you find you have a much lower hit rate. Then the question becomes can this combination of methods be played at a profit? The automation side of things can be easy but the trick is to find a reliable method of picking numbers most likely to hit with the amount of picks being a reasonable number to play as you should not be spending more than 50 percent of what you are going to win to catch a hit.

On the road, this topic suddenly came to mind and I think its not a bad idea after all.

The problem with gaming losses is that they are deductible only to the extent of your winnings.

I believe this idea solves that problem.

Anyone can register/start a business, a software company, dedicated to developing a winning system, charge lottery wins/losses as income/expense as testing expenses and end up either winning, which is subject only to sales tax or being able to charge your losses as a legitimate business expense, which you cannot otherwise do in the regular 1040.

Maybe its worth exploring more.

In your quest, a few things to consider. The motivation of the authors of such systems. If one has a great, proven system, why share it with others? Ok, maybe they're seeking to be generous. However, for any system that works very well and is widely used, lotteries will notice and adjust games accordingly...

To date, the classic Pick-3 and 4 games for many lotteries are pretty much the same as when introduced decades ago. In contrast, casinos have responded to card counting for Black Jack (21). Doesn't mean lotteries would necessarily change a game, but they'd alter the way it's played, monitored, etc. I've seen no such changes, at least not in PA. So either such systems don't work well or simply haven't been noticed by the lotteries. My guess is the former.

Lotteries have changed some games and/or implementation of them when flaws have been pointed out and/or there have been excessive winnings. There are various examples, including Texas All or Nothing (originally had no prize cap; how Texas overlooked that is beyond me, but they did; an excessive number of players hitting 10 of 12 ultimately called their attention to the issue, and game was promptly pulled and reworked) and extended play instant tickets (crossword, bingo, etc) of various lotteries that contained observable patterns in the exposed portion of the ticket that could be gamed to a player's advantage.

The 40-50% lottery house advantage is a significant barrier to profiting for typical lottery games. However, progressive jackpot games can be the exception when numerous jackpot roll-overs occur. Though one still has to consider the overall odds, which even for the easiest jackpot games are often still in the hundreds of thousands. For example, PA Treasure Hunt (5/30) game jackpot odds is 1 in 142,506. While compared to Mega Millions and Powerball is tiny, that's still a huge number of combinations, nevertheless.

To be clear, there are strategies to make one's bankroll last longer, and maybe improve one's chances a little along the way, but be wary of any system promising huge wins or beating the odds. Good luck.

When I play the Mega Millions or the Power ball games. My goal is not to win the grand prize. I just shoot for 5 out of 5. I'm shooting for the 1 million dollar prize. If I happen to hit the PB or MB in the process, so be it. If you look at all the individual lotteries, you will find that they are paying out more then the posted odds. This is not luck. People are finding that certain combinations are coming in more than others & they are playing these combinations.

I am keeping track of the Pick 6 in Illinois. The odds posted for 5 of 6 is 1:73,763. The odds posted for 4 of 6 is 1:1,311. From 01/17/1998 thru 07/01/17 there have been a total of 2,670 drawings. I have found 42 sets of drawings that have matched 5 of 6 numbers twice so far. I have also found 2,346 drawings that have hit 4 of 6 multiple times. If you take 2,346/2,670, you will have a hit ratio of 87.87%. My Groups for the IL Lotto are 574 which are made up of 2,346 drawings. Every single drawing for the month of June 2017 have matched one of my 574 Groups. So much for ODDS.

Here are the drawings for the month of June 2017. The Red numbers are the Groups that match 4 of 6. This is not Random. With a 87.87% hit ratio, I will definitely will say this is far from being random. Enough about odds. If need be, I can print out all 13 groups listed below for the non believers.

Lottery machines along with the balls are man made. Balls are put in a certain order, machine is turned on, balls drop, spindles turn, balls fall out. From start to finished, the entire process takes less then 15 seconds. Combinations & Patters do form, even if they use multiple machines and different sets of balls. The only way the Lottery can be totally random is if it is handled in a complete vacuum environment & I doubt that this will ever happen.

Patterns (or trends, I use them interchangeably) are part of every random lottery. Numbers are selected randomly but practically always they form certain patterns. These patterns can be observed and analysed. The fact that numbers in the pattern are random is irrelevant as is the fact that past numbers have no bearing on the future ones. What really counts are the patterns.

Patterns are really easy to spot. Just look at any current number frequency chart and any from the past. The charts themselves and the differences between them are patterns. You can observe a number of other relationships - patterns, again. In fact, any statistical computation or comparison will reveal patterns.

No question, observable patterns are present in any random lottery. They happened in the past, are happening now and will happen in the future. Take it for granted.

So, how can you use these patterns to your advantage? I see 2 approaches: historical and current.

Historical approach means discovering patterns in the past draws, sometimes going back hundreds of draws. Obviously, you will discover patterns that existed before. If they happened before they may repeat in the future. But there is a problem - timing. Like numbers in the lottery patterns are also random. A pattern may repeat tomorrow - or in 3 years from now. Trying to time the patterns (or the numbers themselves) is an exercise in futility - similar to herding 100 cats in the open field (never tried this one but failed with only 2 in a small house so I know the outcome). Patterns from the past belong to the past and should be left there.

The other option (and the one I use) is to identify and utilize patterns that are happening now. Patterns may vary in duration: be very short-lived, last for a while, or anything in between. Obviously, I look for the longer ones.

For identifying trends I use statistics exclusively. I'm not interested in metaphysics that are not connected to number predictions in any logical or statistical way.

I will use a Pick 3 as an example because the number pool is small, numbers are drawn frequently and new patterns show constantly. A frequency chart from the Wisconsin Pick 3 as of March 19th, computing 15 latest draws:

0 ------> 6 times
1 ------> 7
2 ------> 8
3 ------> 1
4 ------> 6
5 ------> 0
6 ------> 8
7 ------> 3
8 ------> 0
9 ------> 6
Avg - 4.5

Quick analysis - numbers 2 & 6 did not end up on top of the charts in one day, 5, 8 & 3 did not nose-dive in one day either. It took them some time to reach their respective positions. These were their current (or most recent) trends. These trends LASTED for some time and during this time they could be detected and used. That's all that counts for me.

The chart below demonstrates how the numbers performed in the past 15 draws (frequency increased, decreased, about the same):
0 ------> 3
1 ------> 1
2 ------> 6
3 ------> -4
4 ------> 1
5 ------> -4
6 ------> 1
7 ------> -5
8 ------> -3
9 ------> 4

Again, numbers 0, 2 & 9 did not get into positive trends overnight, nor 3, 5, 7 & 8 lost popularity instantly. These charts together indicate that during the last 15 draws a small group of numbers dominated the draws hitting repeatedly and much more often than others. These trends could be clearly identified after 1 week and the second week used for playing. And it showed in the results - big time.

Since mid-November I've been running a simulation for Wisconsin Pick 3. I measure the results on weekly basis. All my predictions are based on short term current trends. I seldom analyse more than 25 latest draws, usually 15 to 20. Understandably, if the selected trend is effective it will win in a given period of time. The average winning ratio is about 51% at any given time. Usually 1 and occasionally 2 trends score above average at the same time. But for the week ending March 19, because of the high concentration of numbers, there were 3 winners in related, but not the same, categories: Hot numbers (the best of the pack), Repetitive numbers (must hit repeatedly in short period of time) and Due-to-Hit numbers (must hit consistently at regular intervals). Each trend lasted for 7 days and won every day.

Identifying a trend does not mean that it is going to be successful. Backtrack is needed - verification that the trend carries a promise for the near future, based on its most recent performance. Such an evaluation is simply necessary.

What I also observed since November is that none of the trends ever extended over 7 days and many were much shorter (so much for playing the same numbers for a long time). Also, no trend repeated from week to week and those that repeated (there were such) did it at random with no observable pattern (so much for timing the patterns).

To sum up, trends do exist in all random lotteries, can be identified and used for predictions. If you consider using trends for predicting numbers concentrate on what is now, current, forget the past. You've got an example that it can work, and frequently.

It is impossible to predict what the numbers are going to be for a particular drawing.

As others have noted there are patterns and that is because there are patterns in the numbers. For instance if we just look at 2 flips of a coin. In total there are 4 possible outcomes for the 2 flips. Here are the possible outcomes:

TT,HH,TH,HT

As you can see from the results the most likely outcome is going to be one heads and one tails. Therefore if the coin is flipped 5 times 1000 times the results would be a pattern that was roughly a statistical match to the 4 possibilities with some slight to moderate variation.

So even though we may know what the 4 patterns are and the frequency in which they should appear, we cannot reliably predict  which pattern is going to appear in a given cycle, that is where the randomness comes into play. In a short window of 20 cycles the same pattern may be repeated 5 times and then not appear again for the next 20 cycles.

To use a P5/30 game as an example, there are 142,506 combinations of numbers. of that 142K there are 42,525 combinations where the first two numbers are between 1 and 15. This means that roughly every 3-4 drawings the winning numbers will have that combination. There will be times when it exactly matches that frequency and there will be other times when it is higher or lower.

If you are willing to accept that their are days when you will have no chance of winning you could play combinations of numbers within the subset thereby improving your odds on the days that match that pattern. And that is how most of the strategies work. They provide a mechanism to isolate a subset of numbers that hopefully offer achievable odds on the day the pattern shows.

The problem is that the more variables used to define a pattern, the greater the spacing is between the instances in which that pattern appears.  People can offset it by increasing the number of games they play per drawing, but the problem is that the cost of playing all the combinations is too much.

When I started looking at playing lottery games it did not take me long to realize that there is no strategy in the world that can predict what the winning numbers are going to be for a specific drawing. Anyone who says differently is selling snake oil.

To understand if a strategy will be successful one must first define what the goal of the strategy is. For some people the goal is winning more than they spend, for others it is winning a multi-million-dollar jackpot. Attempting to define and execute a strategy without a goal is the equivalent of having no strategy at all.

The second part of defining a strategy is understanding how much you are willing to spend and how long you are willing to wait to reach the goal. The amount one is willing to spend has a direct impact on the amount of time needed for the strategy to achieve the goal.

If I were to commit to a strategy that involved spending $100.00 per year even if the strategy took 20 years to achieve the goal under worst case odds and I won $2,000,000 I’d still be way ahead of what I spent to win. Of course, I’d feel much better about winning if I won the first month of executing the strategy as opposed to 20 years later.

For this post, I’m going to focus on the goal of winning a multi-million-dollar jackpot without having to spend more than $1,000.00 a year.

Because it is impossible to predict what the winning numbers are going to be for a specific drawing we are dependent on identifying patterns within the drawings and hope that pattern even shows up at some point in the future.

It would be great if the pattern hit within the first few drawings, but that is rarely the case and in developing a strategy you should plan on having to play for an extended period of time, especially if the drawings only occur once or twice a week.

If I were to flip a coin 10 times there are 1024 possible patterns for the outcome of those 10 flips. If my strategy for winning the jackpot depended on 6 flips in a row being heads there would be 16 opportunities for me to win. My odds of winning the jackpot would be 1.5%.

To make this strategy work at a bare minimum I would need to commit to playing 64 times to win. However, there is a chance that 6 heads in a row may not occur within those first 64 drawings so my strategy should factor in having to play several cycles of 64 drawings.

If I could also make the system work for 6 tails in a row my odds of winning increase to 3% and it reduces the minimum number of drawings that I must play down to 32. Although now my cost per game has now increased because of the additional pattern, but it would be a tradeoff I’d be willing to accept for achieving my goal sooner.

Sadly, there are not games out there with those kinds of odds so let’s look at a game where to win one must match pick 6 out of 60 number. The odds of winning the jackpot for that game are 1 in 50,063,860.

There are approximately 16,483,600 combinations of winning numbers where 3 numbers are 30 under and 31 and over. If I just play combinations of those numbers I’ve automatically tripled my chances of picking the right combination of numbers although I’ve done it at the price of guaranteeing that on average I will only have a chance of winning once per every 3 drawings.

Suppose I take it a step further and divide the 60 numbers by 10. There are 1,000,000 combinations of winning numbers that involve 1 digit from each of the 6 segments. That means for roughly every 50 drawings my odds of winning would be 1 in 1,000,000.

If this game has a drawing every day and I have committed to play about $1000 a year that would leave me about $3 per drawing to play even if I never won a dollar reducing my odds to about 1 in 333,333. If on average I win back about 360 dollars a year and sink that back into the game my odds are 1 in 250,000.

In the end this strategy is still going to require a bit of luck and possibly several dozen years to pay off, but to me it offers a realistic possibility of winning without breaking the bank if I don’t while sustaining the “Wat if” fantasy each day.

Ultimately that is what lottery pattern strategies are, breaking the numbers in segments that increase the chance of picking the right combination of numbers.  Although instead of taking static segments based on the sequential order of the numbers they break the numbers into segments based on trend data. The key is understanding the spend versus reward ratio.

When evaluating a strategy:

  1. Define a goal
  2. Determine how long you are willing to commit to the strategy
  3. Define how much you are willing to spend annually to execute the strategy
  4. Determine the frequency of the pattern in the strategy
  5. Determine the odds of picking the correct numbers within the pattern

There are a lot of things in this world that once were considered impossible. Beating the lottery with a system may or may not be one of them.

This may largely depend on the definition of "beating" the lottery. For some it will be jackpot only, for others occasional lesser prizes will do; for me breaking even or above would be a good reason for satisfaction.

Isn't it amazing, with all the analysis tools (hot/cold, skip....etc.) that nobody can triangulate wins in a somewhat consistent manner.

The problem with all numeric random lotteries is that nothing in them is consistent - they fluctuate constantly. Identifying patterns (I call them short term trends) in these fluctuations is, I believe, the only realistic way to win. These patterns will not last for very long. For that very reason you cannot use only one prediction method for picking winners. Apart from your favorite Method A you HAVE to have Methods B, C, and probably several others.

That leads me to believe that there are plenty of elements out there (probably twenty or thirty of them) to develop a winning system.

Actually, I believe, there are only 4 such elements (and they were tested in real play):

  1. Statistics based on the past draws, particularly the most recent ones.
  2. Predictions based on statistics.
  3. Wheels.
  4. Backtracks.

All this stuff has to be computerized, there is no room for manual computations for 2 reasons: they are slow and easily subjected to undetected errors which may screw up results for weeks or even months and this cannot be allowed because it may also cost big money. For the same reason spreadsheet workouts must also be excluded.

While most people in LP appreciate the value of backtracks, what amazes me is how little attention is given to wheeling. Wheeling is necessary for all random numeric lotteries and absolutely ESSENTIAL for jackpot lotteries. I won't bother with any lottery if I don't have wheels for it. Either I will get them or develop my own (the latter being my preferred choice). LP has wheels and I wonder how many people use them. Probably not  many.

You are wise to look at all systems at the LP with a very critical eye.

And not only these. If you want to use a commercial package apply the same principle. Particularly to their prediction methods. If the software does nor explain HOW it makes predictions (so you can verify them manually) it's SFFS (Secret Formula For Suckers).

Just one persons opinion. *S*

Just another persons opinion. No *BS*

Humans are pattern recognizing machines -- it's what we do.  Do we sometimes get carried away and see patterns that aren't there?  Maybe.  But I think it is more likely that we are just focusing on a pattern that isn't relevant in the current situation.

Lottery is full of patterns -- each draw is composed of even numbers and odd, high and low, repeats from the last game, sums, etc. And each of these statistics has a distribution.  If the statistic gets too out of whack, it WILL revert to the mean.  Maybe not in the next draw, but you know that it is coming.  For example, if your lottery draws have been composed of all even numbers for 4 draws in a row, you know that some odd numbers are coming up.  Which odd numbers and when they will arrive are more difficult to predict.

So, my basic assumptions are:

1.  The current lottery draw is related to past lottery draws by the continuation of a variety of patterns; and

2.  Statistics will always revert to the mean -- what is scarce now will be plentiful at some future point and vice versa.

Greg

Actually, he DID win because she requires, for her own integrity and reputation, photocopies of winning tickets as proof of the winner's claim. All of her nearly 100 jackpot winners are documented in that way, among others.

As I've been saying for years, it's not the software, it's the PLAYER who with the TOOLS the software provides combines an intuitive feel and skill for apprehending discernible or recognizable patterns that yield the winning numbers.

As far as I can see, she is the only writer that describes those patterns, which might explain why her books are advertised on this site.

As I have also said for years here, a wheel is only as good as the numbers put into the wheel. How do you choose the numbers for your wheel? Study the patterns and learn what is likely to fall or hit.

Todd

Greg,

That was a great way to put it.  I could not agree more.

It is the player, a complete set of information and statistics, and a set of toolsnot a magic set of numbers to play, not a single piece of software, not a perfect wheel, not a single system.

This is the Lottery Post approach: a convergence of those three things.  I would agree that GH has an excellent baseline set of information and strategies for any lottery player, which is why I recommend that every player have at least one of her books.  As Greg mentioned, there are links on the left, and if you click one of the links, Amazon will show other excellent related books that I just don't have room to show here.

LottoVantage said in a different thread:

The way I prefer arriving at a set of numbers to wheel is to track my sum range chart and see where the winning number sums are congregating.

Then, the second part is in deciding which numbers I need for use in the wheel. There are all kinds of tricky formulas around to try, but formulas are always in constant change. How can you successfully manage that constant change?

The way I manage the change is to maintain an accurate up to date statistical flow chart. This chart indicates what numbers are hitting, what their status is at the time of the draw, and where they are located within a structured enviornment.

Once I created the proper charts, I began seeing that certain groups of numbers behaved in a peculiarly significant pattern. Two groups of numbers were created by dividing the statistical flow chart into an Upper Tier Group, and a Lower Tier Group of numbers.

Many times 4 or 5 numbers would appear in one particular group of numbers, and the very next drawing 4 or 5 numbers would appear in the other/opposite group of numbers. This peculiar pattern has been observed to occur for up to four or five continuous drawings in a row. There is one problem here. At certain times 4 or 5 numbers, (not necessarily the exact same numbers), appear again from within the same group of numbers as the previous drawing.

Now, this observation clicks a switch, doesn't it? If there is a particular pattern that commenly occurs involving a majority of numbers appearing in a certain group of numbers, and the observation has proved to re-occur repeatedly time after time where 4 or 5 numbers is going to re- appear the very next drawing in one group of numbers or the other, what would you do?

Exactly! You would wheel all of the numbers from each group of numbers and play them, wouldn't you?

Ooooooooh, wait! Ooooooooh, that's waaaaaaaay too many number strings to wager!!!

How can I possibly reduce all those strings down to an affordable amount to wager?

Question answered!!! This is what can be done to cover all the numbers from both groups, (Upper Tier, and Lower Tier).

Observe the Average Sum Chart! View where the last two or three total sums appeared at. If there is a Sum Cluster, or a Sum Cluster Alert nearby, these target sum range's may be considered.

Using 4if5 of 19, and 4if5 of 20 wheels to cover all the numbers, (in example, the OH Rolling Cash 5 of 39), and filtering the totals from each wheel using "average sum reductions."

For instance, using a 4if5 of 19 wheel, reduce the total 345 tic's by utilizing Sum Filtering. Reduce the range of 55 to 154 down to, say, 95 to 105. The median range for a 5/39 Lotto is 100. The reduction can be whatever appeals to you. I like viewing the Average Sum Graph and developing a "gut" feeling for what may happen next, for instance, utilizing the sum ranges outlined in the Sum Cluster, or Sum Cluster Alert boxes.

Once this technique is developed, you will be surprised at what is possible. This application can be practiced until a comfort level is achieved and you can become accomplished!

This is the way I do it...

Hi Bigrig1972, Welcome to LP!!!

Since you're pretty new at the games, I would suggest you pick just one state (Mass?) and stick with that. Take time

to study your state and learn how it behaves with the numbers. You will notice that certain things happen, pay

attention to when they happen and how often. (Not necessarily dates.) Look for trends or patterns in the numbers.

Try to find things that happen more often than others. This will give you an edge. Don't be afraid to experiment or

think outside the box. If you get an idea, make up a chart and track it for awhile to see how it does. Sometimes things

might work out well other times not. But whatever you do, SAVE all of your charts, even the ones that fail miserably.

Why? Because sometime in the future you will get another, (better) idea about the same thing, and you will be able to

improve the way you track it to make it more effective. Also, make notes on your charts, because 2 or 3 years down

the road you may not remember everything you were thinking at the time. One more thing, the numbers will tell you

what numbers to play. Pay attention to the numbers. Don't worry, you'll get it later on. Good Luck!!!

rcbbuckeye

It just doesn't make that much difference. Look for ways to play to reduce the odds. For example... BobP has a idea whereby if you eliminate the numbers that were drawn in the last drawing, then you've dramatically reduce the odds provided none of the numbers in the last draw play again. It is a condition that doesn't always work of course, but many times it does. It's a way to wipe millions of combinations off the table. That's the best way to play the jackpot games.

You might try to eliminate 1 or 2 decades of numbers from play also. For example, play all the numbers except those in the 20's (20-29).
