It was nice that he and his family got to have a little more time together.
That's what everyone wants when you realize you could be leaving this life.
It's even like that with pets.
I have a dog that I took in as a stray 15 years ago and she has cancer and it's terminal. She's taking steroids every day just to function somewhat and as long as she still enjoys and wants to go "bye-bye" in the truck (and she does) we want to let her enjoy that. She needs help getting up but still wants to go with us anytime we go out. And we will hate to see her go when her time is up. At the end, everybody always wants a little more time.

Our pets are family too. It's hard when they leave us.
