The one thing we know for a fact, it was a slap and not a punch like Fox News said. But after that it all becomes speculation and from what I read, some believe it was real and spur of the moment while others believe it was staged. If it was staged, there has to be for a reason and sagging viewership could be one. Smith's acceptance speech seemed to be staged too considering he didn't know he was going to win.

Other than an attempt to poke fun at Jada, there was no reason to make the "GI Jane" joke. It was out of place and nobody laughed because it wasn't funny. Was Rock making fun of a fashion statement or an affliction?

Slapping a guy in on live TV for making that joke seems way over the top unless the people involved are actors. Besides there are worst things Rock could have joked about her.

I'm leaning towards the staged side.
