Starnes hit that nail on the head......Have completely independent moderators.
What they should do(IMHO) is put each candidate in a soundproof booth (completely blacked out) but able to hear the other candidates talk. When they are called on or have the rebuttal, the light goes on so you can see the candidate, listen to their point of view and have all other candidates' microphones are cut off. Leave time at the end of the debate to have their temper tantrum squabbles against each other. Stick to time limits.

Excellent ideas. But where on Earth would we find a Crush Crusty booth big enough?

Do not need debates. Candidates can make their pitch on the campaign trail with reporters asking questions.

The please clap moment apparently was Crush Cristie Crispy Creme calling President Trump Donald Duck. Not a whole lot of laughter to say the least.
