Third party candidates have an upward battle against the two major parties. The two major parties have road blocks set in place two swat off a third party challenger.
A third party candidate may do better in local elections.

If there is a third party candidate on the ballot it is more than likely a spoiler candidate put in place by one of the two major parties.

The two major parties do not want the Ken & Karen's to have an alternate choice.
