Back to the topic. This is not a new union contract. It is just an extension of the current one until Jan 15. What will happen is the union will negotiate with the company. If they come to something the negotiating committee finds acceptable, the union members will vote to accept it or not. If it is not accepted the union members will hold a strike vote. If they vote to strike they will walk out and no one works. If they vote not to strike they will return to work. Either way negotiations will continue. This process will repeat itself until the members vote to accept the contract. If it is accepted then the agreement is ratified (ie made official) and the new contract takes effect on the agreed to date. Until that happens the old contract remain in effect.
