The Supreme Court gives First Amendment Auditors a win.
Published:
By taking away qualified immunity from police when they illegally detained and/or arrest an auditor. Many people and some police believe permission is needed to film someone, but the Supreme Court ruled anything we can see in public, we can film.
Ego was a big factor and why people were illegally detained and sometimes arrested and held until superior officers showed up. And some of them didn't understand that filming in public is a Constitutional protected activity. Without qualified immunity police officers are now responsible for some if not all monetary awards for illegal arrests and detainments.

Comments
There are many cases where police went to the wrong address and still conducted warrantless searches without contacting superior officers or district attorneys. It could be a simple mistake or an overzealous cop at a traffic stop. Most people even though they know they didn't do what they were accused of will pay the fine to avoid the hassle. Those who fight and win get nothing for their time in court.
Take away qualified immunity and those stops would never happen in the first place.
