Would anyone know what Maine is like? What are the people like, the schools? The weather and the prices for living there?

Shopping, housing?

Since you live in Canada, if I said Maine is cold, it wouldn't mean too much! I used to go to Maine a lot, but I'm sure it's changed quite a bit. What part of Maine are you talking about? Maine has tall, mountains where I used to ski and is also on the Atlantic ocean. Maine has lots of rivers and streams where people like to fish. Maine has lots of unique lighthouses. You can rent a cabin and watch moose swimming across a lake. There are country estates where famous artists live and once lived because of the beautiful landscapes. Maine is a state with thousands of quaint Bed & Breakfast Inns. Maybe you can visit Stephen King!

Maine is very diverse. There are rural areas with more cows than people (maybe not so much these days) and bustling waterfront cities like Portland with lots of restaurants and shops. I know the company is in VT, but I clearly remember eating Ben & Jerry ice cream in As far as prices go, our former President and First Lady (who are also the parents of our current president) live in Kennebunkport, Maine.   It also has about 150,000 people living in poverty, rating only 2nd to Louisiana with about 12% of its population living below poverty level. The numbers are rising as we approach another winter where home heating oil has become too much of a luxury for many families.

New Englanders are a proud bunch, however. They believe in helping neighbors and having an extra plate on the table. Quality and pride of workmanship is important. I still have my L.L. Bean jacket with a hood in the closet. It's lined with thinsulate.   I wear it about 2 nights out of the year. LOL

Oh, now you've got me homesick for New England. LOL

Somehow I lost a sentence. I was writing about the first time I ate at a Ben & Jerry shoppe. Don't know what happened to my sentence. Guess it melted. :-)

You can Google for current weather, if you are planning a trip now. You can also Google for cost of living.   Actually, by using Google you can find out for yourself what almost any place, in the USA, is like.

This will give you Portland, Maine weather:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Weather+Portland+Maine.&btnG=Google+Search

This will help with Cost of Living, Portland, Maine
(however most comparisons are done with USA cities and not Canadian)

Maine also has a desert.

Read a couple of their newspapers and local magazines, editorials to get a personal view and opinions of of the people who live there.

Good ideas Tenaj & TC. I was going to suggest the site www.city-data.com where they have forums like LP discussions on every state in the country. Keep in mind that these are all opinions of other people.

Desert in Maine? I'll have to look that one up.   Guess I missed that one, since I thought I'd been everywhere. Large state!

thank you everyone for your comments and information about Maine.
If I had the money. I would definitely take a trip there, and see what it's like.

A lady I know from Canada. Is going to school there for the year. I hope that she is happy. And that it will be a positive experience for her.
