Somebody hung nooses on an high school campus in high point NC.

Hanging nooses bring back painful memories of racial hatred. Acts like this should be condemmed. He who can protest and does not becomes a silent partner in the act.

I remember seeing an exhibit in Atlanta at the National Black Artist Festival years ago of black men and women hanging dead from trees.   Their necks were hanging sideways and their bodies tangling from the tree.   These were not drawings but actually photographs. It was most horrible.

I was like OMG this was still happening in the 60s. They probably were caught after dark and they probably raped the woman. I took pictures. The photographs burned at the stake were the most gruesome. White people were gathered around the flames of the black burning bodies - jeering - even children. You can see the whites of their eyes. I still have the photographs.

Once at work (museum education) while video taping a docent training (volunteers) the focus was on a painting by Jacob Lawrence depicting black men hanging from trees, Lincoln, chains, etc.

The group of women in the training were very wealthy (mostly 60+) white women. (sweet as they can be), who were too sophisticated and cultured to use the word "colored" or refer to African art as "primitive." Even though this piece was contemporary.

A few said that those kind of things never happened and that black people sold themselves into slavery. Now these women are some the most traveled and educated people I know and they really believed that. They weren't faking it. That was when I realized that it was indeed ignorance. I learned something that day.    You'll not dealing with hatred, or bigotry, but ignorance.

I told them that's why Billie Holiday always ended her performances with the song "Southern Trees Bear Strange Fruit" and a very very small percentage of African tribes warring against each other that sold the losers into slavery and that white men would give one tribe weapons and pitted them against each other.

A drop in the buckle of the millions and millions and millions....who were brought over.

Hanging nooses to make a statement is lowest intelligence of racial hatred. People should teach their children how to recognize and react to bigotry. I hope this incident teach a lesson to young black people.

I hear you, Tenaj. And I agree. I might add that some sophisticated or cultured people CHOOSE to be ignorant for convenience, or for their own selfish reasons.

However, we cannot forever hide behind the cloak of ignorance and claim innocence from racial atrocities when it is our choice to be ignorant.

I put more blame on the sophisticated, cultured, and wealthy who should know better and are in the better position to make changes.

Isn't 6 kids beating the crap out of one kid some kind of hatred? What kind of justice do think should be served here? Slap on the wrist? Probation? What kind of message does this send to other kids? We do live in a nation of laws were revenge through violence is not acceptable behavior. They showed a video tonight on CNN of another incident were 4 or 5 black kids attacked another kid and just kept beating on him. Are we supposed to just look the other way on this one too? Just asked yourself, what if it was your child getting the beat down? Or your brother, father, nephew, etc...???

If you were the accused, would you want to be tried by an ALL-Black jury?

Pinpoint to me from my comments just what exactly are you angry about. Or are you reading into them that prejudice you harbor in your heart?

If the accused was a 16-yr old white male, tried by an all-black jury, and tried as an adult, I would still be outraged!

EQUALITY before the law, is equality before the law - for everybody.

If you were the accused, would you want to be tried by an ALL-Black jury?
Would i have a choice? My choice would be "Not to commit the crime in the first place" or pay the price if you do. This is what was taught to me by my parents. This is what i'm teaching my children. I'm also teaching them respect for everything on this earth, not just their fellow man, but everything! And they learn it from me, watching me, listening to me, seeing how i treat people and react to all situations.

We live in a nation of laws. They're not always fair! But we must have them. Without them their would be injustice a million times greater. The best advice is keep your children out of the justice system. The kid in jail, has multiple prior convictions and was on probation when he decided to rabbit punch someone in the back of the head and then continue to punch and kick a person laying knocked out on the ground. Where did he learn this was acceptable behavior? He was convicted of 2nd degree aggravated battery. This doesn't fit the crime? His race and all other circumstances shouldn't matter. Does it fit the crime?
