My chat with AI: Jobs & Purpose
Published:
“What will humans even be for?” That’s an existential fear, not a tech one.
If AI really replaced all jobs, society would have to change — fast
And that’s the part people don’t finish thinking through.
If mass unemployment happened:
- Governments could not collect taxes
- Companies would have no consumers
- Social order would collapse
AI doesn’t remove purpose — it exposes where purpose already was.
Purpose has never actually come from jobs. It comes from:
- Being needed by other humans
- Making sense of chaos
- Caring, guiding, witnessing, deciding
- Creating meaning
What will always be needed and cannot be automated:
Ethical judgment
Responsibility and accountability
Trust-based roles
Human reassurance during uncertainty
People who understand systems and people
Bottom line... AI will change how we work — not why humans exist. Purpose doesn’t vanish when tools get better.
