* As bad as it’s portrayed: The Harris family were negligent in following through on the issues with their home. Dating back to 2024, their home was purchased by others & they failed to act.

* it’s a self inflicted wound. Much like ignoring parking ticket fines & when you finally nailed, you claim forgetfulness.

Should be mandatory that anyone who pays the overdue taxes must also pay the homeowner full value of the property before it is turned over to them.
Paying just the overdue taxes and taking possession is stealing.

Sounds to me like the city screwed up.
Their tax payments, including those made by check, were applied as a credit to their Baltimore County water bill instead. The home was also reclassified to non-owner-occupied in 2020 while Harris’ mother lived there. That meant Mayor Brandon Scott’s office didn’t exclude it from the tax sale list as part of a special effort to protect residents.

The way the news was reporting the last year or so how the city was sending residents water bills charging them thousands of dollars for one months usage and then blaming the residents and not checking for leaks in outside pipes was crazy. Maybe they were a victim of that. Typical Baltimore City gov't.
