NATO has been a sink hole for US dollars.

Over the past 75 years (1949–2024), the U.S. has contributed an estimated \(\$21.9\) trillion to NATO's defense budget, driven by its high GDP-based contributions. In 2024, the U.S. contributed roughly \(16\%\) (\(\approx \$753\) million) of NATO's direct, common-funded budget of \(\$4.7\) billion. Total U.S. defense spending, partly linked to NATO, is much higher.
