Here’s the thing… you have to show ID to vote.  What the Republicans want is voter suppression.  They want to require people to A) Purchase as passport to vote or B) Purchase and provide a birth certificate which lots of people do not have access to obtain… especially older voters.  And… with women, if their last name on their “ID” does not match their birth certificate, then they are ineligible to vote.  So if we get married and change our last name… we are screwed.  You might want to research this more.  But everyone who goes and votes already shows ID.

No, that is not it. It is about making sure that the people that do vote are legally eligible to do so. Fair elections are important. You don't want the same person voting 20 times do you?

The name on your Birth Certificate does not change. That is the record of your name at birth. If your parents are Mr and Mrs Jones and your name is Mary, the BC will say Mary Jones daughter of John Jones and Jane Jones.  If you decide to marry Steven Smith, first you will get a marriage license (before the wedding) which permits you to marry. This will have your maiden name, Mary Jones. If you decide to change your name the marriage certificate which you will get after the wedding, will have your spouses last name, Mary Smith.
The ML and MC are the legal links to the name change. Again, the Birth Cert does not change. Think of all the confusion it would create it you married several times and changed it each time. Mary Smith/ Mary Johnson/ Mary Williams/ Mary Martin daughter of Mr and Mrs Jones??
After you marry if your ID or Drivers License says Mary Jones you can go the DMV with your ML and MC and change it to Mary Smith. Check with them to verify what documents you will need.
People do this all the time, it's not difficult.

Everybody has their Birth Cert. If you don't have it ask your parents. You need that to get an ID or a drivers license. You need a BC to prove citizenship in order to get a passport for the first time if you want to travel out of country. It can be done without one but you will need other proof you were born here. Other hospital records, baptism papers, school records going back to age 5 or earlier, doctor records etc. Check with your state. You do not need both an ID and a passport to vote.

For voting, you need an ID to REGISTER to vote. When you register to vote they make will make a copy of your ID or drivers license or passport. You do not need both, a DL will be fine. Once you are registered you will be on their records, and you will not need to show an ID when you sign in to vote. If you have a change of address or name change that does not match their records then you will need your ID or possibly other documents, for example utility bill, W2 form, etc to update your voter file. Each state is different. You can google the document requirements for your state and bring them with you if necessary. If possible try to do it ahead of time. Election day will be busy and it will make the process faster and easier. Ballotpedia also has very good voter information for all states.

Before you go vote, do your homework and do your own research into the candidates and find out for yourself where they stand on issues you are concerned about. Check out how they voted on things in the past. A lot of politicians flip flop on the issues, because they think that's what people want to hear. If you find one that says the same things today that he said 20-30 years ago then you know he sticks to his beliefs and principles and says what he means and means what he says. Finally, Presidents are temporary. They are only there for 4 or 8 years. It's the ones that make careers out of it that you have to worry about.
There's an old saying. Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reasons.
