They also made Grumman canoes which were made of aluminum. The canoes and mail trucks were made at different facilities, but Long Island, NY was their main base. At one time they were the largest employer on LI with almost 25,000 employees. Their main customer was the US Navy.
Do you remember the movies, The Final Countdown, Top Gun, and Flight of the Intruder? They all featured Grumman planes.
