Agreed Konane, HOA's are garbage run by fascists busy bodies, they are a pestilence on the housing scene.

I can understand the need for some central organization for high rise condo roof repairs, etc.  However if affordability ever arises, I would never consider moving into a residential area with an HOA for reasons you mentioned above. Also who is to guarantee the accumulated funding for HOA maintenance isn't embezzled???

When an HOA runs out of other peoples money they have a problem.

Many years ago my folks lived in an area for about 6 years that had an HOA. My Dad summed it up. You have someone that doesn't like something. They run to get on the HOA board.  Once they get on it they change things to what they like. The following year they get off the board. Then someone else gets on it and changes it back.

Thanks JAP. I've seen articles here and there of HOA officers embezzling or misusing funds. When they're going homeowners have to pay again.
