sorry to hear that lottovantage.my mother has to go every so often and get tested.she smokes four packs of cigs a day.did your wife smoke? we have did everything under the sun to get my mom to stop but to no avail.she just won't stop.she has even had a scare or two lately.thats why i'm so against smoking.

Yep, she's a smoker. Been trying to get her to quit for many years. Women seem to have a much harder time quitting than men do, especially working women. She hasen't smoked now for about 15 days because she can't hardly get her breath. She has about a three centimeter tumor partially blocking her bronchial track causing her to be very short of breath. They took biopsy samples from this tumor causing some swelling and increasing the difficulty in breathing. We have an appointment at 11:00 A.M. and will probably begin radiation therapy today. It's been snowing for two days here and we have about 25 miles to travel. Hate like hell to take her out in this mess but will have to just go easy and leave in plenty of time to get there.

Mike, I think your Mom already knows that smoking causes lung cancer. She needs to WANT to give it up. My Dad was a very heavy smoker and even being rushed to the hospital with an oxygen mask over his face didn't help. However, the promising news is that about 30 years ago he stopped and lived until this past summer. He would have been 93 a week later in August and was singing & dancing not long ago. He loved music and enjoyed being active. So there is hope.

LottoVantage, like Emily wrote, optimism is good. But the most positive thing is that she gave up smoking. That is very important. My neighbor next door was diagnosed 4 years ago with a spot on his lung and began chemo and radiation immediately. He continued to chain smoke, even after chemo. Then a year later a spot was detected on his liver. He began chemo again. He continued to smoke. The man must have a death wish. 3 years later he's still watching TV & going fishing, although when he panics because he can't breathe the ambulance shows up at my front door. So only God knows what's going to happen, not statistics.

Your wife's attitude and a lust for life might just help her beat this thing and I hope at 93 you'll both be dancing together like my Dad & his girlfriend.

People are living longer productive lives with aggresive therapy.
May God bless your Physicians hands and mind and help him to come up with the correct treatment that will prove to be the exact treatments that will pull your wife out of this.

Sorry to hear that Lottovantage. May God add his richest blessings to you and your wife.

Update: We had a frightful night and was up at 5:00 A.M. with my wife being unable to catch her breath. Got her comforted and breathing steady and made it through the morning. At her Doctors office, we discovered she was experiencing congestive heart failure! Her Doctor admitted her to the hospital immediately and she was in surgery within an hour removing the fluid pressuring her heart. Within two hours following surgery her vital statistics were back to normal. Her pulse and blood pressure settled and became steady. Didn't get to speak with her following the surgery as she is being sedated until in the morning, but she is resting and breathing normally now.

What next? We are to consult with an oncologist in the morning to evaluate what treatment is to be considered for the cancer. Removal of the lung is out of consideration because the cancer has extended from the upper right lung into the bronchial path.
