My fifteen year old grandson has it. He takes mild steroids. He was diagnosed last summer when his hair started to fall out and his gums started to bleed. He is also under a strict diet.....

There are a lot of online support groups for lupus, Mike.

Mike, don't mean to get negative here, but maybe you can use some tough love on your Mom. IIRC, you said she is a heavy smoker. Of course people need to want to quit or you can't do anything for them. Although many people who suffer in pain will say that the smoking brings them comfort, it's still a bad excuse. My next door neighbor looks terrible. 4 years ago when he was diagnosed with lung cancer he must have had a chance, since he's lived for so long. But he'd suck down a pack or 2 after chemo & radiation and now smokes more than ever. Anyway, print these out and show them to your Mom if she still smokes if you feel it's the right thing to do. Sorry for all the stress you are living under.
